Fuel Surcharge Profiles allow the customer to apply a fuel cost to the shipment to cover the cost of diesel fuel used to complete the load. These profiles can be created for both Truckload & Less Than Truckload shipments, and have the ability to be defined by Carrier, Mode, Equipment type, and Location. Shipwell’s Fuel Profiles can be linked to Contracts managed within the platform, and can be utilized to update Fuel Cost on a Shipment based on the US DOE.
To create a Fuel Surcharge Profile the user will need to select ‘Manage’ → Company → ‘Lane Management’ → ‘Fuel Surcharges’.
From the Fuel Surcharges page, the user can either create the Fuel Charge Plan manually, or via an Import.
When Fuel Surcharge is selected, the user will need to enter the following details:
Fuel Surcharge Table Name
Fuel Surcharge Table Reference- When a FSC table is applied directly to a contract, the Fuel Surcharge Table Reference name needs to be listed exactly as shown within the table itself.

Once the Fuel Surcharge Table criteria has been entered, then the user will need to select Rate Table tab to define their DOE Base Rate, Increments, and Max Rate, as well as their starting Fuel Cost, Increments, and the Rate Type in which the fuel is calculated. Shipwell offers the ability to apply fuel on a per mile or percentage basis.
Once the baseline costs, increments, and max rate costs have been entered the platform will generate a fuel plan based on the information provided, that will align with the DOE.
Now that the Fuel Profile has been created, the user will be able to link it in with their respective contracts.
Associating a Fuel Plan to the Carrier Contract
Once a Carrier Contract has been created, the user will have the ability to associate it to the Lane Contract.
While in the Company Page, the user will need to select Lane Management-> Contracts, and then select the contract hyperlink that they’re wanting to associate the Fuel Plan too.
Once the contract has been opened, the user will scroll to the bottom and select the available Fuel Plan from the dropdown box.
