Shopmonkey Payments: Card Reader Set-Up

Unbox and set up your card reader in under 5 minutes to connect your cables and register your payment terminal to Shopmonkey

Shopmonkey allows you to take in-person payments using a Shopmonkey Payments card reader. Insert chip and swipe cards such as VISA and Mastercard, along with contactless payment methods such as Apple Pay, all facilitated within Shopmonkey for a smart, simple, and integrated solution.

​Card Readers

To order a card reader(s) for your shop, please go to the Payments Settings page and then select the Readers tab.


Card Reader Set-Up

Your card reader shipment includes 3 key components:

  1. Card reader

  2. Battery

  3. Power cable

Please Note: You must have access to your internet router in order to set up the card reader.

Step 1

Remove the backing plate from the reader by lifting the backing plate from the bottom left corner.

Step 2

Take the battery out of the box. Insert the battery in the card reader with the bottom notch facing upward. Reinstall the backing plate.

Step 3

Plug in your power cable to a nearby USB outlet. Hold down the power button to power on the card reader.

Step 4

Connect the card reader to the router through Wi-Fi.

Please Note: The reader must be connected to the same local network as your devices running Shopmonkey.

Connecting via Wi-Fi

To connect to the internet using WiFi, follow the on-screen prompts. Select the network name and enter your network password.

Updating Device

Once connected, your card reader may ask you to update the device. Select Update.

Step 5

After connecting and updating (this may take a few minutes), the bootup screen will finish loading. Your display will look similar to the image below.

Once you see this screen, you can connect the reader to Shopmonkey.


Connect Card Reader to Shopmonkey

Your reader must be connected to Shopmonkey before it can be used in your shop

To connect a card reader(s) to your shop, please go to the Payments Settings page and then select the Readers tab.

Click Register a Reader to begin the setup process.

  1. Turn the reader on and connect to the internet (following the steps above)

  2. Enter the numerical sequence on the reader.

  3. Type the registration code into Shopmonkey.

After a successful connection, name the reader (e.g. Front of Shop) and click Save.

Your reader is connected and ready to take an in-person payment.


Accepting Payment

To record a payment, select New Payment on the right side panel of an order.

Select if you would like to:

  • Swipe a card

  • Charge a card manually

  • Record a card transaction

  • Receive a check

  • Receive cash

  • Other

Swipe a Card Using the Reader

Click Swipe a card to connect with your reader and collect payment from your customer. Your customers can pay by swiping or inserting their VISA/AMEX/Mastercard or using contactless payment methods such as Apple Pay and Google Pay.

Charge a Card Manually

If you are taking payment over the phone via credit card, you should select Charge a card manually. Enter the required card details from your customer, verify the required payment amount, and select Charge.
