Codecs | We accept the following codecs:
*We also accept the H.265 codec; however, we do not recommend it at this time due to a known HDR compatibility issue. It is always best to capture content in the desired codec from the start. Though transcoding your content to a codec Shutterstock accepts is possible, it may introduce compression. If you need to transcode your video to a codec we accept, you can try a free program called HandBrake. |
Audio | Video clips should not contain any audio unless it enhances the clip, or is considered editorial content. |
Color Space | REC 709 is preferred |
Mobile device videos
We will accept horizontal or vertical 4k and HD video recorded with a mobile device, but please keep the following in mind:
When transferring your footage from your phone to your computer, please be sure to use the device cable. Emailing/messaging the video as an attachment will result in loss of quality.
Please keep in mind that on most phones, the user-facing camera has a much lower resolution than the camera facing away from the user. We recommend using the camera with the highest resolution.
