What is Superannuation? (AU)

Information on Superannuation for Australian Sidekicks, including what it is, how it works, when it is paid, and how to update your details

Superannuation, or 'Super', is money set aside by your employer that is invested and managed by a super fund until you retire. This applies to all Australian workers.

When are superannuation payments made?

With the introduction of Payday Super (effective 1 July 2026), your superannuation contributions will be paid directly to your nominated Super Fund at the same time you receive your wages.

  • Super contributions will reach your super fund within 7 business days of your payday.

  • Note: If you are a new Sidekick or have recently updated your profile with a new super fund, your first contribution may take up to 20 business days to be received by your fund.

The 'No Fund Supplied' placeholder may appear on your payslip if your superannuation details are not finalised before the weekly pay run. Rest assured, your contributions are still being accrued during this process!

Please ensure your Super Fund or Self-Managed Super Fund (SMSF)

details are up to date and recorded on your profile.

What happens if I don't provide my super details? (Super Stapling)

If you do not provide us with your preferred super fund details when you join, Sidekicker is required by law to follow a process called Super Stapling.

  • We will contact the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) to check if you have an existing "stapled" super fund linked to you from a previous job.

  • If the ATO locates a stapled fund, your super contributions will automatically be paid into that existing account.

  • If the ATO confirms you do not have a stapled fund (for example, if this is your first job), Sidekicker will then set up a new default account on your behalf with HostPlus.

What are my Superannuation details?

When you joined Sidekicker, you would have been asked to provide your Superannuation details on your profile. If you opted for Sidekicker to set up a new Superannuation account on your behalf, we would have created a Superannuation account with HostPlus.

HostPlus accounts are created at the end of the quarter based on the payment schedule mentioned above. Once the first Superannuation payment is made for you, HostPlus will send a letter to your address on Sidekicker with the details of your new account. You can also contact them directly to request your account details. During the creation process and until the first superannuation payment is processed, your payslip may show 'No Fund Supplied' as a temporary designation. This does not affect the accrual of your contributions.

NOTE: Your super details will not be added to your account until the end of the first super cycle. In the meantime, you may see a 'No Fund Supplied' note on your payslips. This is a placeholder used in cases where super fund details are yet to be finalised or updated in the payroll system, typically before quarterly payments. No need to worry! You are still accruing super, and if there are any issues with processing each quarter, we will get in touch with you.

How do I update my superannuation details?

It's essential that your details are always up to date to avoid delayed/incorrect payments. If at any point you need to make changes to your details, you can follow these steps:

  • Click here to log in and access your Employment Details

  • Update the fund name and membership number in the section shown below

  • If you cannot find your super fund details, please select 'My super fund isn't listed here'

⚠️ Important: Sidekicker cannot update your super details for you. You must do this personally by logging into your Sidekicker app and following the steps outlined above.

Self-managed super funds (SMSF)

If you have a self-managed super fund, we will require the following details:

  • Fund name

  • ABN

  • Account name

  • BSB

  • Account number

  • Electronic Service Address (ESA)

  • Fund email

Please reach out to our Support Team with the above information so we can update this accordingly.
