How to Fix a PDF Using “Print to PDF”

This articles explains how to fix issues you may encounter with your PDF by using the "Print to PDF" functionality.

Why use “Print to PDF”?

Sometimes, a PDF can’t be successfully signed because it’s corrupted or not compliant with our PDF requirements. Printing the document to a new PDF file creates a clean, compatible version of your document — removing hidden elements, security restrictions, or formatting errors.​

The process doesn’t require a physical printer — your computer creates a brand-new PDF instead.


Windows: Use “Microsoft Print to PDF”

  1. Open your file (Word, PDF, or another format) on your computer.

  2. Press Ctrl + P or go to File → Print.

  3. In the printer list, select Microsoft Print to PDF.​

  4. Click Print.

  5. Choose where to save the new file and give it a clear name (for example, “Document_fixed.pdf”).

Your new file will now be created as a fully compatible PDF.

Tip: Every modern version of Windows includes the Microsoft Print to PDF printer by default. If you can’t find it, you may enable it under Windows Features → Turn Windows features on or off → Microsoft Print to PDF.


macOS: Use “Save as PDF”

  1. Open your file in Preview or another application.

  2. Press Command + P or go to File → Print.

  3. In the Print dialog, open the PDF dropdown in the bottom left.

  4. Choose Save as PDF.​

  5. Choose a save location and click Save.

This creates a new, flattened PDF that works reliably across different systems and signing tools.


Why this helps

  • Removes non-standard fonts, forms, and layers that may cause validation errors.

  • Ensures embedded certificates, watermarks, or encryption issues are stripped away.​


Summary

If your PDF can’t be uploaded to our platform, use the Print to PDF method to re-create a fresh, valid file. It’s a simple one-time step that eliminates most file compatibility problems.
