SimpleLab test kits, like many other diagnostic tools, do have an expiration date. This ensures the accuracy of test results and reliability during shipping.

Additionally, if the outside of your kit is labeled with “Perishable” – rest assured that no special storage is required prior to sample collection. The kit/contents only become perishable after you have collected the sample and ship it to the lab for analysis. Remember to always ship ASAP after sample collection to ensure accurate results!

Why Do Test Kits Expire?

Test kits typically have a shelf life of one year. There are two primary reasons for expiration:

  1. Shipping Labels Expire: Pre-paid shipping labels, such as those for UPS, FedEx, or USPS, expire after one year. Using expired labels may prevent your kit from reaching the lab.

  2. Preservatives in Sampling Containers: Many test kits include sampling containers that contain preservatives to stabilize the sample. These preservatives lose their effectiveness over time, reducing the accuracy of the test.

Are There Any Exceptions to Expiration?

Some kits, such as lead and copper water testing kits, do not contain preservatives. For such kits, expiration is mainly due to logistical reasons, such as the validity of the shipping label, rather than the components themselves.

What Are Your Options for Expired Kits?

If your test kit is expired, it doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s unusable. You have a few options to consider:

1. Shelf Life Extension of Expired Kits

  • In some cases, expired kits can be extended, but this depends on the circumstances. You may need to contact customer support (hello@gosimplelab.com) to confirm if your kit qualifies for extension. If approved, ensure to use the new expiration date provided during the extension. process.

  • If the expired shipping label is invalid, you may need to purchase your own return shipping label to send the samples to the lab. Confirm these details with SimpleLab before proceeding.

2. Checking Expiration Dates

  • Always check the expiration date printed on your kit. If the date has not passed, your kit is still valid for use and return. If the date has passed, please reach out to the SimpleLab support team (hello@gosimplelab.com) for assistance.

For any issues related to expiration or if you need guidance on an expired kit, contact SimpleLab's customer support ASAP. Understanding the factors affecting test kit expiration can help you plan accurately and ensure reliable test results.
