Customizing Your Lab Reports as a Commercial Team

How to configure report formats, sharing rules, custom messaging, and benchmarks for your Team account, and what your customers will see on the finished report.

Written by Jamie

Overview

When lab analysis is complete, SimpleLab automatically sends the report to the email addresses associated with each test kit. This includes members of your Team and, if you choose, your end client.

Your Team account controls several settings that determine how that report looks and behaves, both for your internal team and for the customer who receives it. This article covers each setting and where to find it.

Report Format

Every completed test report is delivered in multiple formats:

  • Interactive HTML (default): includes detailed results, evaluation tools, and comparisons to a selection of industry benchmarks.

  • PDF download: for easy printing or offline sharing.

  • CSV export: for importing results into your own IT systems.

Setting Sharing Options

You control who receives results and when:

  • Send results to you, your client, or both.

  • Hold results for 72 hours, giving your team time to review before the report is shared with the client.

  • Generate a shareable link to distribute the report to additional parties.

Managing Reports From Your Dashboard

The Report Dashboard is where your team tracks every kit from purchase through final results.

Top navigation

  • Shop Tests: access your account's full catalog of available test kits.

  • Manage Tests: track the status of all kits, from purchase and shipping to analysis and final results.

  • Your Account: access Team Settings and switch between individual and Team accounts.

  • Pending & Results: search for specific kits and view key reference details, including status and completed reports.

  • Filter menu: refine your view by Matrix, Status, Analyte, Payment, or Activated By, with sorting options for easier navigation.

  • Test Kit ID & Test Name: click either to open detailed information, including status, results, and reporting.

Test kit line

  • Pencil icon: add a custom nickname to help identify and organize your kits.

  • More (⋯): download PDF copies of kit instructions and access additional actions.

  • Report Access: view a kit's status and access the link to activate it.

  • Shipment Tracking: track the package in real time via the provided shipping link.

Click a Test Kit Name to open the expanded view of that test for full detail.

Adding a Custom Message to Reports

Each Team can add a custom message that appears on every report issued through the account. Use it to:

  • Direct clients with follow-up questions.

  • Provide recommendations or next steps.

  • Include contact information or program details.

  • Share standardized guidance relevant to your services.

This message appears consistently across all reports generated by your Team, so customers see the same guidance regardless of which staff member processed the kit.

Choosing Default Benchmarks (Drinking Water)

For drinking water samples, Teams can automatically include regulatory benchmarks on reports to help customers interpret their results. Three federal options are available:

  • MCL (Maximum Contaminant Level): the EPA's enforceable regulatory limit

  • MCLG (Maximum Contaminant Level Goal): a health-based, more conservative, non-enforceable target

  • Secondary MCL - Non-regulatory, US EPA voluntary guideline

Whichever benchmark you select appears consistently on all drinking water reports generated by your Team. Choose the option that best aligns with your organization's priorities.

Creating Custom Benchmarks

In addition to the default federal benchmarks, Teams can create their own Custom Benchmarks for water and soil samples (additional matrices are coming soon).

  • You can set up multiple custom benchmarks based on the comparisons most relevant to your clients.

  • This lets you tailor reporting for different projects, regulatory frameworks, or internal standards.

  • Custom benchmarks appear directly within the report, helping customers interpret results according to the criteria that matter most to your organization.

What the Customer Sees

Once these settings are configured, here is what shows up on the report a customer receives:

  • The interactive report dashboard

  • Your Team's custom message, appearing the same way on every report

  • The default benchmark your Team selected, shown next to relevant drinking water results

  • An option to generate a shareable link

Where to Manage These Settings

All of the settings above are managed from Your Account > Team Settings. Changes apply going forward to all reports generated under your Team account.
