The Tick Oscillators are a suite of 5 indicators that hone in on various market internals known as the 'Ticks'.

The ticks are market internal measure of short-term market sentiment by displaying the number of stocks trading on an uptick minus the number on a downtick.

The 5 indicators in the suite are:

  • ST Tick Indicator - the main TICK that John watches throughout the day

  • ST Tick Indicator - SP500 - a proprietary ThinkorSwim symbol that shows the ticks specific to JUST the S&P 500

  • ST Tick Indicator - NDX - the ticks specific to the NASDAQ (NQ)

  • ST TICK Indicator - MAG7 - a proprietary measurement of the ticks related specifically to the MAG 7 stocks - AAPL, AMZN, GOOGL, META,MSFT, NVDA, TSLA

  • ST Tick LABEL - this is a custom label showing the tick numbers with colors to show up or down overall

The default settings on each indicator (detailed below) are what John uses on his charts. These are the settings he tested for the best overall performance. You can modify the values as it suits your trading plan and style.

The Tick Oscillators are supported on ThinkorSwim and Tradingview.

PLEASE NOTE: The ST Tick Indicator - SP500 is NOT supported on Tradingview or any platform other than ThinkorSwim. It is a proprietary symbol created by ThinkorSwim only and no other platform has that.

The Mag7 indicator allows you to configure a single "tick" to watch a specific symbol

or to create a custom set of up to 7 symbols you want to combine. When using the single custom, the indicator will show a label so you can easily see which custom symbol you are currently tracking:

PLEASE NOTE: TOS requires that you TAB away from a text field in order to save the data you enter. Be sure to hit TAB before clicking Apply and/or Close so that your configuration will be saved when you are using a custom symbol.
