With recurring campaigns, you can set up a message to send automatically on a regular basis.

Unlike a scheduled campaign, which only sends once at a predetermined time in the future, recurring campaigns will continue to send until you stop them or a specific end date you’ve set is reached.

We’ll show you how it works step-by-step.

Setting Up a Recurring Campaign

1. On the left-hand side of your dashboard, select Campaigns. Then, the blue New button at the top of the window.

2. Proceed as if you were sending a standard one-off campaign—give your campaign a name and type your message in the text message box. Then, select the audience you want to send to from the dropdown.

3. Scroll down and under Send on, select Recurring from the menu.

4. Select which date you want your campaign to start sending, then specify the time you’d like your message to go out. For example, if you want to send your message at 8 am, you can enter 08:00.

5. Under Repeats, select whether you want your message to send daily, weekly, or monthly from the dropdown menu. From there, you can specify the frequency of your message by toggling the - and + buttons. Depending on if you select Daily, Weekly, or Monthly, you’ll have a few other options to choose from.

Daily:

Running a longitudinal survey and need to send a message with a question at the same time each day? Not a problem with daily recurring messages. You can also set up messages to send once every two, three, four days (and so on). Perfect for check-ins with clients or employees who regularly report to you.

Weekly:

Arrange to send messages weekly with our next tier of recurring campaigns. Ideal for sending Friday timesheet requests, progress reports from your team, and more. You can also notify people about a recurring meeting on, for example, a Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.

Monthly:

Choose monthly for recurring events like a First Friday Farmer's Market or regular rental and utility payment reminder. A monthly reminder message keeps your operations running like clockwork. You can opt to send messages on the first of the month, or, for example, the first, second, third, or fourth Monday.

Have a bi-weekly payday? You can multi-select two days each month to send a text blast.

💡SimpleTexting Tip: Remember if you select the 31st, your message won’t send on months that only have 30 days. You should send it on the last day of the month instead.

6. If you have a set time for your campaign to stop sending, select the Ending date button and pick a date from the calendar below. If it’s open-ended, choose Never.

7. Select Next

8. Review your scheduled messages, and if everything looks good, press the blue Schedule button. You’re done!

8. This brings you to the final preview screen. Here, you’ll see when your messages will start sending (and the next five days it will send) and your estimated credit use per send. If everything looks good, you can click the blue Schedule button, or save your message as a draft.

💡SimpleTexting Tip: Once a campaign is sent (from scheduled) it moves to the Sent view. In the sent view, the recurring campaign will no longer appear to be attached to the series (though it should show a table of the next 5 sends).

Ending a Recurring Campaign

If you selected Never as your campaign end option, you can stop the series at any time.

1. Go back to the campaign dashboard and select Scheduled from the dropdown.

2. Select the campaign you want to end and select the Archive icon at the top of the campaign.

3. If you only want to cancel one campaign in the series, select Archive only this campaign. If you wish to cancel the recurring series altogether, select Archive all future campaigns.

Editing a Recurring Campaign

If you need to change your campaign while the series is live, you can by editing it. You can choose to edit one message or the entire series of messages.

The former is ideal if you want to send a recurring weekly message but need each message to be unique. For example, if you want to send a weekly motivational message or action item.

1. Go back to the campaign dashboard and select Scheduled from the dropdown.

2. Locate the campaign you’d like to change, and click the Edit button on the top right corner.

3. You can opt to either edit the message for just the upcoming campaign, or all future campaigns to come as well.

Either selection you make, you’ll be directed back to the original campaign editing screen where you can make your changes.
