A Placeholder is a form of helping the user complete the field with the correct data.
Placeholder text should provide a brief hint to the user as to the expected type of data that should be entered into the field.
You are able to set this hint text for any field in Platform via the Placeholder control.
On-screen in the Journey, a placeholder will be like 'watermark' text in the field. A user will be able to type over it.
An example of Placeholder text in Loanapp is where
the Placeholder tells the user what type of data is expected - eg the expected date format:
or where the field is a dropdown, instructions to Select an option:
Placeholder text can be any relevant instruction to help the user. Note that the length of the Placeholder should always be considered, to suit the field.
How to configure a Placeholder on a field
To set a Placeholder on a field, you need to make sure you are in Draft mode in Platform, find the field you want to set the Placeholder text, and scroll across to the Placeholder Control. In the following example, the "Title" field on the application Setup screen has a placeholder:
If you click on the three dots in the Placeholder Control it can be edited:
This Placeholder will set a 'watermark' in the Title Field that instructs the user that if the user does not add a Title to the application, a "standard format" Title for the application will automatically be set:
