How to Take a Screenshot?

A Guide for Windows, Mac, and Mobile Devices

Taking a screenshot is a quick and easy way to capture what's on your screen.

Here’s a comprehensive guide on how to take screenshots on various devices, including both desktop and mobile:

💻 Desktop

Windows PC

  • Full-Screen Screenshot:
    Press the PrtScn (Print Screen) key. This copies the entire screen to your clipboard. You can paste it into applications like Paint or Microsoft Word using Ctrl + V.

  • Snipping Tool or Snip & Sketch:
    Press Windows + Shift + S. This opens Snip & Sketch (or the older Snipping Tool), allowing you to select a portion of your screen to capture. Choose from rectangular, free-form, window, or full-screen snips.

  • Windows + PrtScn:
    Press Windows + PrtScn keys together to automatically save a full-screen screenshot to your Pictures > Screenshots folder.

MacBook

  • Full-Screen Screenshot:
    Press Command + Shift + 3. This captures the entire screen and saves it as a file on your desktop.

  • Portion of the Screen:
    Press Command + Shift + 4. This turns your cursor into a crosshair. Click and drag to select the area you want to capture. Release the mouse button to take the screenshot, which will be saved to your desktop.

  • Specific Window or Menu:
    Press Command + Shift + 4, then press the Spacebar. This changes the crosshair to a camera icon. Click on the window or menu you want to capture.

📱 Mobile

iPhone

  • With Face ID:
    Press the Side Button and the Volume Up button simultaneously. Release quickly to capture the screen. The screenshot will appear in the bottom-left corner for immediate editing or sharing.

  • With Home Button:
    Press the Side (or Top) Button and the Home Button at the same time. Release quickly to take the screenshot.

Android

  • Standard Method:
    Press the Power Button and the Volume Down button simultaneously. Hold for a second until you see a flash or hear a camera shutter sound.

  • Samsung Devices (with Palm Swipe):
    On some Samsung devices, you can swipe the edge of your hand across the screen to take a screenshot. Ensure this feature is enabled in Settings > Advanced Features > Motions and Gestures > Palm swipe to capture.

Windows Phone

  • Press the Power Button and the Volume Up button at the same time. The screenshot will be saved to your Photos > Screenshots album.
