Certificateholder Coverage
At this time, Walnut insurance policies are issued on an individual basis. This means that your roommate cannot be added to your existing policy.
Why Individual Coverage Matters
Having separate policies ensures that each tenant has protection tailored to their specific needs. It also avoids complications when filing claims, since coverage is linked directly to the named certificateholder (you) — not the household as a whole.
According to your policy:
Certificateholder means you and:
Your spouse;
Your relatives, and
Any other person under the age of 21 who is in the care of any person named above.
If the entity named on the Declarations Page is a business entity, certificateholder means any person residing at the insured location with the certificateholder’s permission.
With respect to any vehicle under this certificate:
Any person using the vehicle in your employment or with your permission is covered.
What Should Roommates Do?
If your roommate doesn’t yet have coverage, they can easily apply for their own tenant insurance policy through Walnut. The process is fast, fully online, and offers affordable monthly rates with flexible coverage options.
Does Walnut Cover My Spouse as Well?
Yes! Walnut automatically covers spouses and dependents under the same policy, so you don’t need to take any extra steps to add them.
