Notifications & Live Activities in Siro

Learn what notifications Siro sends, what they mean, and how to adjust your settings — plus how to use Live Activities on iOS to control recordings from your lock screen.

Written by Ethan Peterson-New

Overview

Siro uses notifications to help you capture more conversations, stay on top of coaching, and act quickly when something important happens. On iOS, Live Activities show your recording status at a glance on your lock screen; tap to return to the app to pause or stop.

This article covers:

  • The types of notifications you may receive

  • How to make sure your device is set up to receive them

  • How to adjust your notification settings

  • How Live Activities work on iPhone

Part 1: Notifications

Before you start: enable device permissions

Most Siro notifications require that your phone's permissions are turned on. Before troubleshooting anything else, check these two settings in your phone's Settings → Siro:

  • Notifications — Must be enabled to receive any Siro push notifications.

  • Location — Only required if you use appointment arrival reminders. For best results, set this to Always Allow. If set to "While Using," you may miss reminders when Siro is running in the background.

Types of notifications you may receive

1. Appointment reminders

If your organization has a CRM or calendar integration connected to Siro, you'll receive reminders to record your appointments.

  • Time-based: Sent 5 minutes before an upcoming appointment if you haven't already received an arrival reminder.

  • Arrival-based: Sent when you're within approximately 150 meters of a same-day appointment and it's still more than 5 minutes before the start time. Inside 5 minutes, you get the time-based reminder instead.

Tapping the notification opens Siro and starts a recording that's automatically linked to the appointment.

To turn these off: Disable Siro push notifications in your device Settings. (There is no in-app toggle for this notification type.)

2. Debrief Calls (phone calls from Siro)

If your organization has Proactive Calling enabled, Siro may call you after your recordings to provide coaching or follow-up prompts.

  • Default timing: Once per day, after your first recording of the day — about 10 minutes later if Halftime was running, otherwise once your recording is ready.

  • If you're recording when the call comes in: Siro will wait and call you after the recording ends.

To configure: Go to Settings → Notifications → Debrief Call in the Siro app and choose your preferred call frequency — After every conversation, Once a day (the default), Once a week, or Manual (no automatic calls, but you can still request one after any recording).

On Android: you may also see Show calls full screen beneath it. Until you grant that permission, a debrief call arrives as a notification rather than taking over the screen — the call still comes through, it is just easier to miss. Tapping the row hands you to your phone's own settings, and it disappears once granted.

3. Teammate recordings

You may receive a notification when a teammate posts a recording to your team feed.

4. Comments and mentions

You'll be notified when you're included in a comment thread on a recording, even if you weren't directly tagged.

5. Recording safety alerts

Siro sends a couple of notifications to help you avoid lost recordings:

  • Long recording reminder: A nudge if a recording has been running for an unusually long time.

  • Recording paused: Sent if a background interruption stops the recording and Siro can't automatically recover. Tap the notification to resume.

  • Recording interrupted (Android): If your phone stops a recording in the background and Siro can't restart it, you'll get a Recording interrupted notification. Tap it to reopen Siro and pick up the same recording where it left off.

6. Rehash / follow-up prompts

If your organization has follow-up workflows enabled, you may receive notifications related to re-engagement or next steps after a conversation.

7. Siro Chat prompts

Some organizations receive a notification after a recording finishes processing, inviting you to chat with Siro about your latest conversation.

How to configure your notifications

Step 1 — Enable device permissions

  1. Open your phone's Settings.

  2. Locate Apps

  3. Scroll down and tap Siro.

  4. Enable Notifications.

  5. If you use appointment reminders, also enable Location (ideally set to Always Allow).

Step 2 — Adjust in-app settings

Some notifications can be configured directly in the Siro app. For example, you can change your Debrief Call frequency in Settings → Notifications. This setting was called Companion Calling before the September 2026 app update, and you may hear it referred to as Proactive Calling at the org level. If you don't see a toggle for a specific notification, it may be controlled at the org level by your admin.

Step 3 — Check with your admin

Some notifications depend on features your organization has enabled, such as CRM integrations for appointment reminders or Proactive Calling. If you're not sure whether a feature is active for your team, ask your Siro admin.

Troubleshooting

If you're not receiving notifications:

  • Confirm that Siro notifications are enabled in your device Settings.

  • If you're missing appointment arrival reminders, confirm Location is set to Always Allow.

Part 2: Live Activities (iOS only)

What are Live Activities?

Live Activities is an iOS feature that lets you monitor your active Siro recording from your lock screen or Dynamic Island. To pause or stop, tap it to return to the app.

Available on iOS 16.1 and later.

Where you'll see them

  • Lock screen: Your recording status appears when your phone is locked. You'll see a banner that shows the recording status — for example "Recording Active — Siro has your back" while recording, or "Recording is paused — Siro is not recording" if it's paused.

  • Dynamic Island (iPhone 14 Pro and later): A compact activity indicator appears at the top of your screen. Expanding it shows the recording status and elapsed time — it is informational and has no controls.

What you can do

While listening to a recording

Standard iOS media controls appear on your lock screen and Control Center — play/pause, skip to the next or previous recording, and scrub through the audio. (These are the system Now Playing controls, separate from Siro's recording Live Activity.)

While actively recording

  • See how long the current recording has been running

  • Tap to return to the recording screen to pause or stop

  • If a Halftime Report becomes available mid-conversation, the Live Activity shows "Halftime Report Available" — tap it to open a summary of your call so far.

Setup

No setup required. Live Activities appear automatically whenever you're recording, listening to a recording, or uploading. Simply lock your phone or minimize Siro, and the indicator will appear.

Troubleshooting

If Live Activities aren't showing up, or if the recording indicator appears when it shouldn't, reach out to the Siro support team and we'll help you sort it out.
