The Siro web app lets you record sales conversations directly from your desktop browser — no mobile device required. This article walks you through starting, managing, and saving a web recording.
Before You Start
Use Chrome for the best experience.
Make sure your microphone (or headset) is connected and selected in your computer's sound settings.
If you are on a VPN, try disconnecting if you run into connection or audio issues.
How to Start a Recording
Click the Record button in the left sidebar of the Siro web app (visible on any page).
The recording screen opens: your camera feed appears in the center, and — if Halftime is enabled for your organization — the Halftime panel opens on the right.
You're live — begin your conversation.
You can also press G then R from anywhere in the web app to jump to your Recordings list. To start a recording, use the Record button in the sidebar.
Auto-Record
Auto-record lets Siro listen for a spoken start command and begin recording automatically — so you never miss the opening of a conversation.
To set it up:
Go to Settings (by clicking your name in the bottom of the left sidebar) in the web app and enable Auto-record.
Choose from the suggested start commands (the default is "let's get started") or add your own.
Use the built-in Test button to confirm your microphone and start command are working correctly.
Once enabled, Siro listens passively in the background. When it hears your start command, recording begins automatically (with an optional start sound). All listening happens on your device — nothing is sent to Siro until the recording starts.
During a Recording
Top Bar
The top bar gives you at-a-glance status and key controls:
Title — shown at the top left. Click the pencil icon to open the Edit title dialog, then type a new name.
Timer — a timer in the top bar shows how long you've been recording.
Conversation Type — displayed next to the timer. Click it to open a dropdown and switch the conversation type mid-recording if needed. (Not shown if your organization uses automatic conversation-type detection — Siro picks the type for you.)
Bottom Toolbar
The bottom toolbar contains controls for your audio, video, and session:
Mic — toggle your microphone on or off. Click the chevron next to the mic icon to open the source picker
Camera — toggle your camera on or off, or click the chevron next to the camera icon to switch between your connected cameras.
End recording (red button) — stop the session and save
Trash — discard the recording entirely
How long a web recording can run
A recording made in your browser can run for up to 3 hours.
At 2 hours 45 minutes a banner appears — "Approaching the 3-hour limit" — warning that recording stops automatically at 3 hours and anything after that is lost. Save this recording and start a new one to keep going.
If you pass 3 hours, the recording stops on its own and you're taken to the save screen with a note reading "Recording stopped at the 3-hour limit". Everything up to that point was captured; anything after it was not.
Note: this limit applies to browser recordings only. Recordings made in the Siro mobile app can run up to 6 hours.
Navigating Away During a Recording
You can navigate to other pages in the Siro web app while a recording is in progress. The recording keeps running and collapses into a compact recorder in the left sidebar, showing your timer and quick controls. Click the expand button to return to the full recording view.
Halftime Mode
If Halftime is enabled for your organization, the Halftime panel opens automatically on the right side of the screen when a recording begins. (Some organizations have Halftime turned off, in which case you won't see this panel.) After 3–4 minutes of meaningful conversation, Halftime becomes active and provides a real-time coaching report — customer needs summary, guidance, and a closing plan. You can chat with Siro directly from this panel during natural breaks in the conversation.
If your mic or camera disconnects during a recording, Siro automatically switches to a backup device. For your microphone, a recovery dialog then appears — "Microphone switched — Your mic disconnected, so we switched to [device]. Make a sound to check it's working." — with a live audio meter, and once it hears you it confirms "We hear you! — Your microphone is working, back to your recording." The same dialog also appears at the start of a recording if Siro isn't detecting any audio ("Check your microphone — We're not detecting any sound. Make a sound to test your mic."); click Continue recording to dismiss it. Separately, if Siro loses its connection to the Halftime chat service (for example, if your internet drops), the Halftime panel will show an Offline state: "Offline — Chat features paused" with the detail line "Your recording is continuing normally." Your audio recording continues uninterrupted either way.
If Your Connection Drops
If your device loses its internet connection mid-recording, Siro keeps trying to reconnect for up to about 10 minutes — so a brief network drop (or closing your laptop lid for a moment) won't end your recording. While it retries, you'll see "Lost connection, trying to reconnect." If the connection can't be restored, a Recording connection lost dialog appears: "The connection dropped and couldn't be restored. We've kept everything captured up to this point — end now to review and save it." Choose End & save to keep everything captured so far, or Discard recording.
There is a second version of this. The dialog above is your browser giving up after its own retries. If the connection had already been down long enough for Siro to close the session, you'll instead land on the save screen with a note reading Recording ended — "This recording ended before you stopped it — the connection dropped for long enough that the session closed. Everything captured up to that point was saved." Save it as normal.
Saving the Recording
When you click End recording, a Save Recording modal appears:
Title — pre-filled with the current recording title; edit if needed
Conversation Type — confirm or change the conversation type — not shown if your organization uses automatic detection.
Share recording — tick this to let admins, coaches, and reps with this conversation type view and comment on the recording. Leave it unticked to keep it to you, your coach and admins. If your organization has turned off sharing after recordings, you won't see this option.
Click Save. A loading screen will appear, then you'll be taken to your recording detail page. Keep the tab open until the upload and processing step completes.
The save screen can also appear without you clicking End recording, if Siro ended the session for you. When that happens a note at the top explains why — either "Recording stopped at the 3-hour limit" or "Recording ended". Save it the same way.
Note: Recording Outcome (e.g. "Products Sold", "Appointment Set") is assigned automatically by Siro's AI from the transcript — there is no manual Won/Lost/Deal In Progress selection at save time.
Troubleshooting
I don't see the microphone permission prompt
In Chrome, click the lock icon in the address bar and open Site settings.
Set Microphone to Allow.
Refresh the page and try Record again.
Microphone is allowed, but audio is missing or very quiet
Re-select the microphone in the Siro recording screen.
Check your computer's sound settings to confirm the correct input device is active.
Close other apps that may be using the microphone (Zoom, Google Meet, Slack huddles).
The browser says "Microphone blocked"
Follow the steps above to set Microphone = Allow in Chrome site settings. If your organization manages Chrome policies, you may need an admin to allow microphone access.
Recording won't start or gets stuck
Refresh the page and try again.
Try an incognito window to rule out extensions.
Disable ad blockers or privacy extensions for the Siro site.
Tips
You can navigate freely during an active recording; it collapses into a compact recorder in the left sidebar.
Make sure to click End to properly end the recording — closing the tab before saving may result in lost content.
Recording something long? Watch for the 3-hour warning at 2h45m and save before the cut — past 3 hours the ending isn't captured.
You can update the title (and, if you're asked for one, the conversation type) right before saving.
Use Auto-record (Settings) so Siro starts recording automatically when you say your start command — no need to remember to hit Record.
