Most trading on the ASX happens when the market is open between the hours of 10am and 4pm AEST.
The ASX has also recently changed the way it opens and introduced a pre-open period and a post close period.
The pre-open period starts at 7am and ends at 9:59am and during this period orders are queued.
Between 9:59 and 10am there is an Opening Auction that takes place and is a randomised 15 seconds where orders will be cancelled. This is a levelling period.
There is also a post close period between 4:11pm and 4:21pm where you are able to submit market orders and amend existing orders.
Outside of market hours you can still submit a limit order which will be queued processed once the market opens.
