Tracking of transport from the ocean and air visibility engine relies on data gathered from various sources such as carriers, vessel terminals, container terminals, and others.

Sometimes, tracking system stops receiving new information about a shipment. When this happens, we eventually stop tracking it. We call this "Force closure of the tracking". There are two main reasons why this occurs:

Ocean Transports:

  • No Updates at All: If we start tracking a shipment for you, but then we never get any updates from any of our sources, we'll stop tracking it after 60 days from the day we first got the request. For example, if we begin tracking a shipment on January 1st, 2025, and never receive an update, we'll stop tracking it on March 1st, 2025.

  • Updates Stop Coming: If we get a few updates about a shipment, but then they completely stop, we'll also stop tracking it after 60 days from the last milestone update we received. For instance, if a shipment tracking starts on January 1st, 2025 and few updates are received, and the last milestone says it's expected to gate out on port of discharge on February 14th, 2025, but no more updates come after that, we'll stop tracking it on April 14th, 2025 (60 days after that February 14th date).

Air Transports:

  • No Updates at All: If we start tracking a shipment for you, but then we never get any updates from any of our sources, we'll stop tracking it after 30 days from the day we first got the request. For example, if we begin tracking a shipment on January 1st, 2025, and never receive an update, we'll stop tracking it on January 31st, 2025.

  • Updates Stop Coming: If we get a few updates about a shipment, but then they completely stop, we'll also stop tracking it after 10 days from the last milestone update we received. For instance, if a shipment tracking starts on January 1st, 2025 and few updates are received, and the last milestone says it's expected to deliver on airport of arrival on January 6th, 2025, but no more updates come after that, we'll stop tracking it on January 16th, 2025 (10 days after that January 6th date).

Note: All the above values of days mentioned are configurable.
