The When temperature is out of range notification helps you monitor temperature-sensitive road transports.
Use this rule to inform the right people when temperature readings remain outside the defined range for a selected duration.
When to use this notification
Use this notification when you want to:
monitor transports carrying temperature-sensitive goods;
react when temperature readings go below or above an allowed range;
use a temperature range provided in transport data;
define a custom temperature range manually when needed.
Available for
This notification type is available for Road transports.
It can be created across multiple transports from the Notification rules section, or for a specific road transport from the transport detail view.
How the trigger works
You choose the temperature data source and define how long the temperature must remain outside the selected range before a notification is sent.
There are two options for the temperature range:
Temperature range from transport data: notifications are sent when the temperature falls outside the range provided in the transport data, for example via an integration or API.
Manually entered temperature range: notifications are sent when the temperature falls outside the minimum and/or maximum value you enter manually.
For a manually entered range, you must enter at least one value: minimum temperature, maximum temperature, or both. You can select the temperature unit in Celsius or Fahrenheit.
You also define the out of range duration. This is how long the temperature must remain outside the range before the notification is sent. The maximum duration is 120 minutes, or 2 hours.
Resolution notification
The option to send another notification when the temperature returns to the defined range is shown as Coming soon and is not currently available.
Recipients
You can add transport-level recipients by email or SMS. For each recipient, you can select the notification language.
Stop-level recipients are not available for this notification type.
How to set it up
Open Notification rules from the side menu.
Select Add notification rule.
Choose Road as the transport mode.
Select When temperature is out of range as the notification type.
Choose whether to use the temperature range from transport data or enter a range manually.
If entering a range manually, add the minimum and/or maximum temperature and select the unit.
Set the out of range duration.
Add optional custom filters, for example carrier, customer, site, user, or stops.
Add one or more recipients.
Add a rule name.
Save the rule.
Example
A team monitors refrigerated road transports and wants to be notified when the temperature rises above the allowed range for more than 30 minutes.
They create a notification rule with:
notification type: When temperature is out of range;
temperature range: manually entered;
maximum temperature: selected according to the goods being transported;
out of range duration: 30 minutes;
recipient: cold chain operations team.
If a matching transport stays outside the selected range for the configured duration, the team receives a notification and can investigate.
Good to know
This notification depends on temperature readings being available for the transport. If no temperature data is received, the rule may not trigger.
Use a duration that filters out short, harmless fluctuations but still gives your team time to act when temperature-sensitive goods may be at risk.
