Summary

This article will go over how to use, edit, and create Skema's Polyline Building and Auto Layout tools.

This KB Article includes the following:

Creating the Massing

To create a massing using this tool, select the icon in the floating tool bar at the bottom of the workspace.

To place the first point of the building, left click and drag the cursor out or type in a specific dimension for the Building.

To add other edges to the building, select the icon again and place your first point on the generated massing. Once created, the new massing will connect to the other one. Note: the first point of the new massing MUST start in the original massing to connect.

You can also create an enclosed massing by drawing the shape and placing the last point on the first point.

You can alter the created massing at any point by selecting and moving the points along the massing and moving them.

Editing the Massing

To make edits the entire generated massing, select the entire BUILDING. You can do this by hovering your cursor over the massing and selecting tab until the entire mass is highlighted.

From here you can change the name of the Building, the Circulation width, floor count, and floor height.

Corridors

To alter the width of the corridors in your massing, select one of the paths of circulation and alter the widths on the right side of the screen.

You can change the widths of both, or you can also make one of the edges 0 width to create a single loaded corridor.

You can do this with any and as many edges in the massing.

You can also change the end offset of each end of the massing.

This is referring the space between the end of the interior circulation corridor and the edge of the building. Put any dimension in to change this gap.

Auto Layout

To apply a catalog the generated massing, again, select the BUILDING and select the 'Add catalogue' button on the right side of the screen.

Select the blue '+' button on the catalog you want to apply to your Building

See generated layout in the Building.

Unit Mix

The Unit Mix in the building must always equal 100% or the distribution will not generate. The baseline generation will create an even distribution of Unit types from the catalog into the BUILDING.

Changing unit Mix

To change the unit mix in the massing, select the BUILDING and select the Edit button on the right side of the screen.

Here you can change your distribution goal for each unit type.

If you have multiple units for each unit type, you can choose which types you want added to your distribution. By selecting the down arrow, you have the option to toggle each unit on or off.

When you are finished, hit the Distribute button to process the new generated layout in the Building.

Analyze the generated metrics with the goal mix originally placed in the distribution.

Changing Massing with Unit Mix

To alter the massing with the unit mix applied, simply select one of the points and drag them to create the new desired shape. You will notice the generated mix will disappear.

Simply apply the mix to the new building to get the new layout.

You can also select the 'Auto distribute' button to always have a layout generated whenever you make an edit to a massing.

The 'Auto Distribute' tool allows you to seamlessly make changes without re-distributing the mix manually.

Releasing your Building

Once you have finished editing your unit mix distribution, you can dive into each floor layout by selecting the 'Release Building" button.

This allows the layout to be "baked" into the building. Once baked, you will be able to go into specific floors, alter individual units, and add other or missing elements to the layout.

From here you can create other elements, add them your layout, and finish the configuration on your Building.
