Summary
This article describes how to edit units from your catalog that are brought into a layout.
This KB Article includes the following:
Bringing Units into the Layout
To access the unit layout capability, you must be in a Floorplan - see the KB article on Floor Plan Layout for more information.
Once in a Floor Plan, on the left side of the screen, in the Catalogue tab, you can drag units into the layout by selecting the unit image and dragging it into place.
Editing the Layout
When brining units into the layout, you may notice that you must make edits to them. Skema offers multiple editing features.
Rotating
Depending on the orientation of your layout, you may need to rotate the unit. To do that, select it, choose the 'rotate' icon at the top of the screen, and draw an initial degree line. Either input the degree of rotation or drag the degree of rotation.
You may need to move your unit back into place after rotating it.
You can snap the corner of your units to any corner of the floor.
Aligning
Units will import into a project at a specified orientation. If your building has a change in angle, the units will not automatically fit to this angle. To fit your unit to this angle, you can use the align tool.
The align tool functions similarly to the rotate tool but uses the edges of the selected unit. Once the desired wall you want to align is selected, you can place a point along the line to be the alignment point, this can be a corner, edge ,or midpoint.
Cloning
Units can also be replicated adjacent to each other, referred to as cloning in Skema, ensuring there is no misalignment of units along a corridor or the building envelope. The selected unit can either be a manually placed unit or a standalone unit from a generated layout.
Using the Clone Tool
First select the unit you desire to clone. Once selected, the on-screen toolbar will expand, providing more options. The 'clone tool' in the toolbar appears similar to a 'copy' symbol; select this. After selecting the 'clone tool', the toolbar will expand, asking for a desired unit count to clone; enter the quantity of duplicates you desire. This can be done by either typing the number or using the up and down arrows to the right.
When inputting the number, the original unit is included in the total. For example, setting the amount to one would not duplicate the unit, but inputting two would create one additional unit.
After inputting the desired value, the clone tool works as if you are moving the unit. To ensure the command works properly, start by selecting the corner of the unit opposite the direction you wish to create more units towards. For the location to move to, select the corner along the same side and direction that you want to create more units in; this will create duplicates at the full width of the selected unit and create proper spacing between them. Selecting a distance less than the total width of the unit will create an overlap between the original unit and all units generated using the clone tool.
Mirroring
You also have the ability to mirror a unit along the x-axis and the y-axis. This allows you to customize your layout and bring certain walls, such as wet walls, in alignment with each other.
Flipping along the x-axis will also change the alignment of all the assets within the unit. This can act as almost a 'rotate tool' if you need to switch interior and exterior assets around.
Use these techniques to edit your layout to fit your exact needs.
When you are finished, make sure to name your layout and SAVE before you exit.
