This article goes over how to export your layouts from Skema into Revit.

This KB Article includes the following:

Requirements

In order to export your data to Revit, you must have the Skema Plug-In installed. If you do not already have it installed, please refer to the Downloading the Skema Plug-In section of the Creating a Catalog | Uploading a Catalog article.

NOTE: The Skema model must have the following elements in it
in order to successfully import:
o A "Construction Site"
o A Massing
o A floor that contains at least one catalog element

Exporting Your Data

Once you have a layout you like and are ready to move it from Skema to Revit, the Skema Plug-In in Revit allows you to do so.

To export your project from Skema into Revit, first make sure you have no windows open in Revit and are on the Home screen.

Next, click the home button next to the Revit logo in the top left. In the Revit toolbar, navigate to the Skema Plug-In and click the Import Project button. You will be prompted to sign in to your Skema account after this.

After signing in, the Plug-In will show you all the projects you have created. Select the project you wish to import into Revit. You will then see all options within the project that you have created, select the option you wish to import to Revit, then click import. After selecting import, you will be asked to select a folder for the project to download to. You can create a new folder for this or use an existing folder. The project will then begin downloading. Depending on the size of the project the time to download will vary.

During the download some error messages may appear, such as unjoin elements or ungroup elements, confirm undoing these errors to make sure the project loads properly.

How Exports Function

Once the project has downloaded, it will open in Revit. The project will be saved in the folder you chose under the name "Building". This is the true import of the project from Skema, and you can now access it whenever you would like. There is also an additional file titled "contextBuildings" which contains the project area and its surrounding buildings. The "contextBuidings" file can be linked to the "Building" file.

In the case that you have multiple buildings in your project, each will export as their own Revit project. For example "Building 0" and "Building 1" if there are two buildings instead of one. Each building project will appear as a linked file in another building project. Refer to the Building Hierarchy to know how to make sure your Buildings are organized in Skema.

The building will load in as a series of groups and walls, groups break down as follows:

  • Building

    • If you have multiple buildings, each one is its own linked file.

  • Units

    • The units of each floor are their own groups and are editable.

    • Morphed units will appear as a group consisting of the interior walls and the circulation wall.

Exterior walls are not included in groups and act as a wall would when drawn in Revit, and are specific to the floor they are on. All windows and doors to the exterior will be generated at the proper locations on the exterior.

  • Standalone walls on a floor will generate along the circulation and are part of a massing that was drawn in Skema or the circulation wall for a morphed unit.

All of these elements are editable and able to be changed to your liking, the project now works as a Revit project. If you do make changes to the building, make sure to save them under a new name, the original export of the building will always be available in the folder you downloaded it to and can be redownloaded if needed.
