Explicit vs inferred enrichment (dot indicators)

The dot next to a value shows whether the value was taken explicitly from a source, or inferred by AI. Green means explicit. Orange means inferred by AI.

Green dot: explicit

A green dot means the value is explicit, meaning it’s stated clearly in the source material.

Typical examples:

  • A net weight that’s written on the pack or on the product page

  • A life stage that’s listed as “Adult” in the product description

  • A packaging type that’s explicitly called out (e.g. “Bag”)

Orange dot: inferred by AI

An orange dot means the value has been inferred by the AI, meaning the value is a best guess based on available evidence, but not directly stated.

In your example:

  • Packaging Type is set to “Bag” and marked with an orange dot because the AI inferred it (it’s typical for dry dog food, and the page imagery or context suggests a bag), rather than it being explicitly stated.

How to use this in review

  • Prioritise reviewing orange dot values before publishing, especially when the attribute affects compliance, logistics, or filtering.

  • Green dot values can usually be trusted, because they’re explicitly supported by the source.
