How to Set Up a Monitor Area

This support article explains how HUB customers can set up a "Monitor Area" to receive emails notifications when a new image is available.

Updated over 2 weeks ago

It can be difficult to know when new earth observation data becomes available due to less predictable collection schedules.. SkyWatch has now made this easier for HUB customers with our feature "Monitored Areas".

HUB customers can now save a drawn/uploaded AOI polygon and set up monitoring alerts when a new image that meets their specifications is available in the archive library.

Why Use Monitored Areas?

Let us say you are interested in new archive images that become available over an important area, but you don't have the budget for tasking new images. Instead of having to log onto your HUB account every other day to check if a new image has been collected, you can set up a Monitored Areas for your AOI and receive emails when an image does become available.

How Does Monitored Areas Work?

  1. Log onto HUB and upload/draw your AOI.

2. Select "Monitor Area" available below the Order Area, or the "clock" icon located in the top right-hand corner.

3. Add the following parameters to your Monitored Area:

  • Name of the Monitored Area.

  • A description of the Monitored Area.

  • Select the dates when you’d like to receive notifications about new imagery.

  • Filters; Data Type, Resolution, Area Coverage, and Max Cloud Coverage.

  • Project: All Monitored Areas must be assigned to a project.

  • Who receives emails; select the HUB(s) user you would like to receive the email notifications.

4. When you have added all the information, click "Save".

5. When a new image is made available and meets all the filter specifications, an email will be sent notifying you an image is available. The image will not be delivered to you. You can click on the link in the email to navigate to HUB and order the image.

Below is the following information that will be available in the email:

  • Source

  • Product Name

  • Capture Date

  • Resolution
