Setting Your Own Risk Controls

Set your Slay Markets daily loss limit in Account Dashboard > Risk Settings; it halts new entries (liquidate-only) and resets 6:00 PM ET each session. Margin requirements are exchange/NinjaTrader-set and unchangeable.

Slay Markets gives you one self-service risk control you set yourself — the daily loss limit — plus exchange-level margin requirements that always apply automatically. You set your own daily loss limit in dollars under Account Dashboard > Risk Settings; when your loss reaches that amount, your account enters liquidate-only mode for the rest of the session. Margin requirements are set by NinjaTrader Clearing, LLC and the exchanges and cannot be changed. Use these controls together to protect your account balance.

What risk controls can I set on my Slay Markets account

Your Slay Markets brokerage account has two risk controls: the daily loss limit, which you set yourself, and margin requirements, which the exchange and NinjaTrader Clearing set for you. The daily loss limit is an optional dollar amount you set in Account Dashboard > Risk Settings; when your loss for the session reaches that amount, your account enters liquidate-only mode for the rest of the session, and the restriction clears at 6:00 PM ET at the start of the next trading session. For full details on how the limit works and how to choose an amount, see Daily Loss Limits. Margin requirements are the minimum balance you must hold per contract — set by the exchange and NinjaTrader Clearing, LLC, published at ninjatrader.com/pricing/margins-position-management, and not adjustable. The table below summarizes both controls.

How Slay Markets margin requirements work

Slay Markets margin requirements are the minimum balance you must hold per contract, set by NinjaTrader Clearing, LLC and the relevant exchanges. You cannot change them, and they are not set in your Account Dashboard. Intraday margins are ES $500, MES $50, NQ $1,000, and MNQ $100 — see Margin Requirements by Product for the full list. Intraday margins apply while you day trade; higher overnight margins apply to positions held past the daily close — see Margin Rules Overview for how the two differ. Current figures for every contract are published at ninjatrader.com/pricing/margins-position-management. Exchanges and NinjaTrader Clearing may raise margin requirements with little or no advance notice during volatile markets, including while a position is open.

Risk control best practices for Slay Markets accounts

To manage risk on your Slay Markets account, combine your self-set daily loss limit with a healthy margin buffer:

  • Set a daily loss limit in Account Dashboard > Risk Settings before placing your first live trade.

  • Review your daily loss limit periodically as your account balance grows or your trading style changes.

  • Keep a cash buffer of at least 25% to 50% above the required maintenance margin at all times.

  • Start with smaller position sizes than you think you need — you can always increase size once you are comfortable.
