GoControl’s Garage Door Controller communicates with SmartRent’s internet-connected hub, allowing you to monitor and remotely control a garage door via SmartRent Manager Web or SmartRent Manager Mobile. If a GoControl Garage Door Controller is installed in a resident’s home, they will be able to monitor and control the garage door within their home using SmartRent App and the Resident Web Portal once they are moved-in. Once a home is occupied, you will no longer have the ability to monitor or control the device.
Installing the Garage Door Tilt Sensor:
Before including the device into the Z-Wave network, you’ll need to properly install the garage door sensor.
To install the GoControl Garage Door Tilt Sensor, follow these steps:
Remove the battery tab from the tilt sensor
Use the hardware to mount the tilt sensor bracket to the top corner garage door
Clip the tilt sensor into the bracket with the arrow pointing up
Including the Garage Door Controller:
Before the GoControl Garage Door Controller can be used, you will first need to include it into the home’s Z-Wave network.
To include the garage door controller, follow these steps:
Plug the device into an active outlet
Put the hub into inclusion mode (refer to our SmartRent Manager Web or Alloy Install articles for additional instructions)
While the hub is in inclusion mode, press the Link button on the side of the controller once
The device should be discovered within a minute
If the device is not discovered, try excluding the device first (see steps below), then return to Step 2
Configuring the GoControl Garage Door Controller:
Once the controller is discovered, it will populate on the Hub page in SmartRent Manager. There are three additional steps to finalize the device installation process.
To configure the smart plug, follow these steps:
Configure the device
This device should configure automatically but may require you to open and close the garage door for the system to grab the sensors states (Open or Closed)
If not, click Configure Device in SmartRent Manager, or Search for Attributes in Alloy Install
When configured successfully, the device’s states (Open Yes and Open No) will appear in the Device Attributes section (Alloy Install will simply proceed to the next step)
Name the device
Choose your desired name for the device
Click Save and Continue in SmartRent Manager, or Name Device in Alloy Install
Click Complete Installation
Excluding the Controller:
If the GoControl Garage Door Controller is not discovered during the inclusion process, it may need to be excluded. An exclusion is a way to reset a Z-Wave device’s settings. This may be necessary if the device was included in a Z-Wave network previously.
To exclude the controller, follow these steps:
Plug the device into an active outlet
Put the hub into exclusion mode (refer to our SmartRent Manager Web or Alloy Install articles for additional instructions)
While the hub is in inclusion mode, press the Link button on the side of the controller once
The device should be excluded within a minute
Mounting the Controller:
Once included into the network, the controller will need to be mounted and wired into the garage door opener motor. Refer to the installation manual that came with the GoControl Garage Door Controller for proper wiring and installation instructions. Before performing any work where electricity is present, it is always recommended to consult with your local electrician.
