How Do I Include and Exclude a Leviton Decora On/Off In-Wall Switch?

Leviton_Switch.jpeg

Leviton’s smart in-wall switch communicates with SmartRent’s internet-connected hub, allowing you to monitor and remotely control the switch via SmartRent Manager Web or SmartRent Manager Mobile. If a Leviton On/Off Switch is installed in a resident’s home, they will be able to monitor and control the switch within their home using SmartRent App and the Resident Web Portal once they are moved-in. Once a home is occupied, you will no longer have the ability to monitor or control the device.

*These steps are for the Leviton Decora In-Wall Switch model, DZ15S.

Installing the Smart In-Wall Switch:

Before the switch can be included into the system, it first needs to be wired and installed. Refer to the installation manual that came with the switch for proper wiring and installation instructions. Before performing any work where electricity is present, it is always recommended to consult with your local electrician. Keep in mind, a neutral wire connection is required for the switch to function properly.

Including the Switch:

Before the Leviton On/Off Switch can be used, you will first need to include it into the home’s Z-Wave network.

To include the switch, follow these steps:

  1. Put the hub into inclusion mode (refer to our SmartRent Manager Web or Alloy Install articles for additional instructions)

  2. While the hub is in inclusion mode:

    • Press the hold the top of the paddle switch for seven second (the LED will blink amber)

    • Tap the top of the paddle switch (the LED will flash green)

  3. The device should be discovered within a minute

    • If the device is not discovered, try excluding the device first (see steps below), then return to Step 1

Configuring the Leviton On/Off In-Wall Switch:

Once the switch is discovered, it will populate on the Hub page in SmartRent Manager. There are three additional steps needed to finalize the device installation process.

To configure the smart switch, follow these steps:

  1. Configure the device

    • To configure the device, turn the switch on and off by pressing the top and bottom of the rocker switch

    • The smart switch should have reported its state change (switching from On to Off) completing Step 1 of the configuration automatically

    • If not, click Configure Device in SmartRent Manager, or Search for Attributes in Alloy Install

    • When configured successfully, the device’s states (On Yes and On No) will appear in the Device Attributes section (Alloy Install will simply proceed to the next step)

  2. Name the device

    • Choose your desired name for the device

    • Click Save and Continue in SmartRent Manager, or Name Device in Alloy Install

  3. Click Complete Installation

Excluding the Switch:

An exclusion is a way to reset a Z-Wave device’s settings. If the Leviton On/Off In-Wall Switch is not discovered during the inclusion process, it may need to be excluded. This may be necessary if the device was included in a Z-Wave network previously.

To exclude the Leviton In-Wall Switch, follow these steps:

  1. Put the hub into exclusion mode (refer to our SmartRent Manager Web or Alloy Install articles for additional instructions)

  2. While the hub is in exclusion mode:

    • Press the hold the top of the paddle switch for seven second (the LED will blink amber)

    • Tap the top of the paddle switch (the LED will flash green)

  3. The device should be excluded within a minute

Using the In-Wall Switch:

Once properly installed and included into the Z-Wave network, you can use the switch as you would any other in-wall light switch. Flipping the switch manually will simply turn the lights on and off.

Additional tips for using the smart in-wall switch:

  • For indoor use only

  • A neutral wire connection is required

  • Do not use to control receptacles

  • Do not use to control personal or space heaters
