When you receive acknowledgments, it can be a little confusing to understand the status of some of those returns. Below are some Return Status stages that you may see, what they mean, and how to resolve them:

Sent to EFC - A return with this status has been sent to the Electronic Filing Center and is awaiting acknowledgment. There is nothing more to do for returns with this status.

Rejected/Agency Rejected - A return with this status has been rejected by either the IRS or EFC. Please refer to your respective software manuals for checking rejection statuses in your tax preparation software. Once the rejection has been resolved, this return can be resent.

Accepted/Agency Accepted - A return with this status has been accepted by either the IRS or EFC. No further action is needed for returns with the Accepted status.

In Progress - A return showing this status has not been e-filed yet and is in the process of being created. This return will need to be finished and then sent.
