Once a return has been accepted either by IRS, state, or both, you cannot edit any information on the return without amending the return.

If the information needed to be edited is the Direct Deposit information or any information about the refund method, you will want to contact the IRS directly.

The amendment form is the 1040X, you will need to add it to the return and select the box that says check here to override all original entries in column A. Then you can go to whatever area you need to edit and amend the return. Amendment forms vary by state, some need to have separate amendment forms from the 1040x. Example CA 540x to amend a California return.

The 1040X form can be e-filed starting in 2019 and forward for e-fileable years through the IRS.
