What is Form 1098-C?

Form 1098-C, Contributions of Motor Vehicles, Boats, and Airplanes, is a document that a charitable organization submits to the IRS when it receives a donation of a qualified vehicle with a claimed value exceeding $500. A qualified vehicle includes:

(a) Any motor vehicle primarily designed for use on public streets, roads, and highways
(b) A boat
(c) An airplane.

To report a contribution of a motor vehicle, boat, or airplane as indicated on Form 1098-C or a similar statement, follow these steps:

From the left-hand widget, search for "Deductions," then select "Go to Charity Deductions $500-$5000."

Alternatively, you can access the same page by selecting the Federal Section from the left-side widget, then navigating to Deductions > Itemized Deductions.

Next, go to Gifts to Charity > Non-Cash Donations (Over $500).

Fill in all the required information and check this box.

If you do not attach a PDF of Form 1098-C or the statement, you should mail Copy B of Form 1098-C or the statement, along with Form 8453, U.S. Individual Income Tax Transmittal for an IRS e-file Return, to the IRS.

To attach a PDF, navigate to Contributions of Motor Vehicles, Boats, and Airplanes from the previous Gifts to Charity menu.

Choose Form 1098-C Upload

Select your files or drag them into this area of the screen.
