Investment Products - 3rd Party Models

How to Navigate & Research SMArtX's Investment Products

Updated over 2 months ago

Overview

SMArtX offers a full roster of third party managed models in addition to manager traded strategies that advisors can choose from to be implemented in your client accounts. These models can be researched through the Investment Products page on SMArtX using a variety of quantitative and qualitative filters to help narrow the selection down to a curated list of models per your client’s investment

needs.

  • By using the Model Comparison Tool and Portfolio Builder, along with exploring manager traded strategies available through SMArtX, advisors have a full suite of supporting tools to deliver a full asset allocation strategy to your clients.

Model Search

  • Advisors can search for a manager and/or model by name, by keyword or by using the filter feature

  • The filter feature allows the advisor to select different attributes that help to pare down the number of models based on the manager’s categorization of their strategy along with quantitative statistics of the models themselves

  • Advisors can tag a model as a “Favorite” by selecting the star next to any model for easy reference later

    • To view all of your Favorites, select the Favorites toggle on the top right of the Investment Products page

  • Users can customize the columns displayed and the order they are in by selecting the setting button (gear icon) on the top of the search grid. The customized view will be retained by the system until the user makes a change to the settings.

Model Microsites

  • Each model has its own dedicated page, called a microsite, with multiple sub-pages for advisors to review

  • Each microsite will contain:

    • Overview - Read about the manager’s strategy at a high level

    • Performance - See the life to date performance of the strategy

    • Statistics - Find quantitative data points on the model trading along with the top 5 long/short holdings in the strategy

    • About Us - Learn about the manager and key strategist

    • Research - Review thought-leadership pieces & market commentary from the manager

    • Disclosures - Find various legal disclosures for model delivery on SMArtX

    • Due Diligence - See the different reviews, checks and validations performed on the managers and models listed on SMArtX

Model Delivery Fees

  • The full fee assessed by SMArtX to implement and maintain a model in a client account is called the model delivery fee

    • The model delivery fee does not include any advisor fees, custodian transaction fees or any other 3rd party management fees/expenses

  • SMArtX Quick Reference Guide - Investment Products - 052023

  • Advisors can find the model delivery fee on the search grid of the Investment Products page in the column marked “Fee”

  • The model delivery fee is also displayed at the top of the Disclosure page of a model’s microsite

Model Holdings Details

  • Advisors can see the top 5 long and short (if applicable) holdings of a strategy on the bottom of the Statistics page of a manager’s microsite

  • Advisors will not see the full holdings of a model until an allocation has been made to that strategy

  • Model holdings and the associated weights are considered proprietary information to the model managers and therefore are not displayed ahead of an allocation being made

  • Once an allocation to a strategy has been made, an advisor can see those holdings by selecting View Holdings from the Account Details page for a specific client

Model Comparison tool

  • Advisors can use this tool to compare an existing portfolio of holdings against the

holdings of the strategies available to them on SMArtX to help find a seamless transition into a new model

  • Any strategy that has at least 1 position overlapping between the provided portfolio and a manager strategy will be returned as a potential match for the advisor to consider

  • Users can see the number of positions, share quantity and account value that overlap with each potential matching strategy to decide on a model to allocate to

Portfolio Builder

  • Users are able to build a full asset allocation in this tool combining multiple models and generating a full historical performance profile for a client to review

  • The total portfolio level investment minimum required to invest in the suggested portfolio is calculated for the advisor

  • A detailed proposal including portfolio performance, statistics, fees (optional) and tear sheets can be generated in a clean, white labeled PDF ready to be delivered to a client

  • The resulting portfolio can be saved as a Target to be applied to a client account, or accounts, can be done from this page

SMA Program

  • Single contract arrangement introducing a 3rd party manager directly to an account where they can implement a customized strategy for the advisor’s client

  • Advisors are able to see manager traded accounts side by side with the rest of their UMA accounts on SMArtX

  • Custodian setup and configuration differs for SMA accounts vs UMA (model delivery) accounts

  • Platform functionality (exclusions/substitutions, rebalancing, CMA) is limited as the trading is done off platform and performed by the manager upon instruction
