DAY 2 Focus β€” Advanced Workflows: Taxable Accounts & SMAs

Goal: Use more complex workflows including:

  • Taxable account transitions

  • Separately Managed Accounts (SMAs)

These workflows require additional analysis and decision-making.

Taxable Accounts β€” Transition Tool Workflow

Complete the following before using the Transition Tool:

  • Verify account appears in Active Account Summary

  • Set up trade restrictions and protected positions

  • Create and assign a target portfolio

When to Use the Transition Tool

If the account has high unrealized gains, you may:

  • Remove it from the Rebalancer

  • Use the Transition Tool instead

Transition Tool Step-by-Step

Step 1: Select Account

  • Open the Transitions Analysis Tool from the left hand navigation

  • Use the On-platform option

  • Select the account using account name or number

Step 2: Target Weights

  • Confirm what is there OR

  • Assign the new target account

  • Adjust the target weights as needed

  • Confirm

Step 3: Tax Budget

  • Set Capital Gains Budget from 0% - 100%

  • Or Add Custom Budget

Transition Scheduler

To automate the process, set a reoccurring schedule so the system can attempt to liquidate losses and offset gains as you specify until the transition is complete.

Step 4: Allocate

  • Review the Allocation Summary page

Step 5: Submit

Focus: Separately Managed Accounts (SMAs)

SMAs are not traded through SMArtX.

  • The SMA manager trades directly at the custodian

  • Trade restrictions and cash management in SMArtX do not apply

  • Any coordination must be done directly with the manager

SMA Allocation Process Does NOT require:

  • Creating a target

  • Rebalancing

SMA Step-by-Step Actions

  • From the SMArtX Dashboard

  • Identify Account

  • Search for the SMA type of strategy through the Investment Product Page

  • Go to the Microsite

  • Complete the intake form found on the Overview page
