Setting up employee tax settings

Tax settings are critical for compliance. SmoothPay implements correct tax rules for all supported countries.

Why tax settings are important

Tax settings vary significantly between countries, with many having nuanced requirements that differ completely from one another. The available tax settings displayed are tailored for each country we support.

Information to enter

The specific tax information required depends on your country, but typically includes:

Tax identification number

  • Tax file number

  • IRD number

  • Or equivalent identification number for your jurisdiction

Tax code or scale

  • The appropriate tax code or scale for the employee

  • This determines how much tax is withheld

Special circumstances

  • Any relevant tax exemptions

  • Special tax rates or calculations

  • Additional student loan deductions (if applicable)

Accessing tax settings

  1. Navigate to the Staff screen.

  2. Select the employee.

  3. Open the Tax tab.

  4. Enter the required tax information.

  5. Click Save.
