Why are my reminder times different from my event time?

If your reminder message shows a different time than your calendar event (for example, 10:00 AM showing as 2:00 PM), this is usually caused by a timezone mismatch, not a bug.

What’s happening?

Your reminder times are based on your calendar’s timezone, while your browser and Google Calendar may display times in your local timezone.

Example:

  • Calendar timezone: UTC

  • Your location: America/New_York (UTC-4)
→ A 10:00 AM event will appear as 2:00 PM locally

Google Calendar can display events in your local timezone even if the calendar itself is set differently, which is why this can be confusing.

How to check your timezone

In Google Calendar

  1. Open Google Calendar

  2. Click the Settings (⚙️) icon

  3. Go to Time zone

  4. Check your Primary time zone

In SMS Reminder

  1. Open the app

  2. Go to Settings → Calendars

  3. Review the timezone for each connected calendar

Timezone mismatch warnings

We show warnings when your timezones don’t match to help prevent confusion. This warning is for informational purposes and you may want your calendars set to different timezones, especially if you're sending reminders to clients in that timezone. If that's the case, double check to make sure your timezones are configured correctly, then you can ignore the notification.

You may see alerts in the following places:

Dashboard

  • Message:
“One or more of your calendars’ timezones do not match your location”

  • A timezone indicator shows the current display timezone

  • Click it to adjust how times are displayed

Edit Event modal

  • If your message uses {date} or {time}

  • A warning appears when there’s a mismatch

Calendar Settings

  • Calendars with different timezones are highlighted

  • Makes it easy to identify which ones need updating

What is “Display timezone”?

Your Display timezone controls how times appear inside the app.

  • By default, this matches your browser timezone

  • You can change it using the timezone selector in the dashboard

If your display timezone is different from your calendar timezone:

  • A warning icon will appear

  • This helps prevent incorrect reminder times

How to fix it

You have two options:

Option 1 (recommended): Update your calendar timezone

Align your calendar timezone with your actual location.

Option 2: Change your display timezone

Use the timezone selector in the dashboard to adjust how times are shown.

Best practice

To avoid issues:

  • Keep your calendar timezone, display timezone, and location aligned

  • Especially important if you use multiple calendars or work across timezones

Still seeing incorrect times?

If things still don’t look right, contact support and include:

  • The event time you expected

  • The time shown in the reminder

  • Your timezone settings

We’ll help you sort it out quickly 👍
