Alateen

Written by Heidi M

Alateen is part of the Al-Anon fellowship and provides support for teenagers affected by someone else's drinking. It offers young people a setting to connect with peers who may understand the uncertainty, worry, family conflict, or other challenges that can arise when alcohol affects a household. Alateen helps teens recognize that they are not responsible for another person's drinking.

Meetings give young people opportunities to share experiences, learn from one another, and explore healthy ways to care for themselves. The program draws on Al-Anon's Twelve Step principles in a way intended for teens. Availability and participation requirements vary by location, and meetings follow specific safety and adult-sponsorship guidelines.
