Introduction
Purpose: This article explains how you set up the compensation for conversions driven by ambassadors.
Context: If ambassadors drive any type of conversion, such as a sale, lead generation, or app download, you can compensate them for each conversion. There are different types of compensation, such as a dollar amount (percentage or flat rate), points or a product reward.
Requirements
Before setting up a conversion campaign, make sure you have the following:
Connector: You must have a connector configured to track conversions. Contact your Implementation Specialist (IS) or Customer Success Manager (CSM) to validate the best connector for your use case.
Conversion Campaign Menu Access: You must have access to the Conversion Campaign menu in the SocialLadder Admin Portal. Reach out to your IS or CSM if it’s not visible in your account.
How to Create Conversion Campaigns
Log in to the SL Admin Portal.
Go to Compensation > Conversion Campaign.
Click on New Campaign.
On the new pop-up window, fill in the fields below on General, and once complete, hit ‘Next’.
Campaign Name - Internal Name which will appear only to SocialLadder Administrators
Campaign Public Name - This name will be visible for the ambassador on the ambassador dashboard.
Conversion Connector - Select the source of the conversions you're tracking.
Click ‘Next’ on Audience page.
For now, campaigns give referral links and/or codes to all ambassadors in your community. Our team is working on a feature to let you choose who will receive the code and/or link.
On the Referral Settings page, fill in the instructions for the ambassadors according to your setup.
Link Instructions - This will be displayed above the link on the ambassador dashboard. See the screenshot below.
Code Instructions - This will be displayed above the code on the ambassador dashboard page.
Block commission from self-conversion - Toggle this on if you want to prevent ambassadors from earning commission when they make a purchase themselves.
Track Conversions from Friend's Buy link - Track also sales driven for Friend's Buy link. It will add up to the SocialLadder's referral link.
⚠️ Note: The availability of referral links and codes depends on your connector setup. Even though you can set instructions for both, only the supported options will appear to ambassadors.
Click ‘Next’ on URL Parameters page.
Our team is working to allow adding parameters to the ambassadors' link.
On Shopify, select if applicable to compensate ambassadors only on first purchase by new customers on your store.
Define the Compensation Rules as follows:
Compensation Type - Choose what kind of compensation the ambassador will receive
Compensation Value - Enter the appropriate value for the selected compensation type.
Click on ‘Save and Publish’.
Here’s how different types of compensation would apply if a customer buys a $150 product using an ambassador’s promo code:
Compensation Type | Value | Outcome |
Points per dollar | 10 | The ambassador will receive 1500 points. |
Fixed amount (cash) | 10 | The ambassador will receive $10. |
Percent | 10 | The ambassador will receive $15. |
Reward | $10 Discount Voucher | The ambassador will redeem the $10 Discount Voucher reward. |
Fixed points | 10 | The ambassador will receive 10 points. |
(Optional) How to Create Commission Tiers
If you want to apply different commissions for different ambassador groups, hit 'Add New Rule' on the Compensation Rule page.
Fill the fields as follows:
Click on ‘Add New Rule’ to add more sales rules.
Click on ‘Save and Publish’.
💡 Note: Create rules in order of priority. Start with the highest commission rule, followed by the lower ones. If the first rule doesn’t apply, the system will move to the next applicable rule. Check out the example below.
Best Practice
Be Transparent: Make sure ambassadors are fully informed about your commission structure. Include this information on your Ambassador Program landing page, Ambassador handbook, and/or the Email Templates.
