How to Setup and Manage Leaderboards

How do I set up and manage leaderboards in an APG game?

Updated yesterday

Quick Answer

To set up leaderboards in an Attendee Participation Game (APG), open your game configuration, go to the Winning tab, and activate the leaderboard types you want to use. You can also choose which leaderboards appear in the Player App and configure the Big Screen Display theme under the Theme tab.

When to Use This Article

  • You want to enable or configure a leaderboard for your game (individual, team, group, or daily rankings).

  • You need to control what players see in the Player App or on a big-screen leaderboard display.

  • You’re troubleshooting why a leaderboard isn’t appearing, updating, or resetting correctly.

Step-by-Step: Activate Leaderboards in APG

Step 1: Open Your APG Game

  1. Go to your APG Game Dashboard.

  2. Click Configurations

  3. Click the Winning tab in your game configuration.

  4. Locate the Leaderboards section.

  5. Enable the leaderboard types you want to use:

  • Overall Leaderboard

  • Team Leaderboard

  • My Team Leaderboard

  • Group Leaderboard

  • Daily Leaderboard

6. Select which leaderboards should appear in the Player App.

7. Click Save.

What Each APG Leaderboard Type Means

Understanding each leaderboard helps you choose the right one for your event:

Overall Leaderboard

Displays rankings across all attendees and all groups.
The winner is pulled from the entire event.

Team Leaderboard

Shows total scores for all teams competing in the game.

My Team Leaderboard

Shows scores for the player’s own team only.

Group Leaderboard

Displays scores within the player’s assigned group.

Daily Leaderboard

Shows points earned as of today only (resets daily totals).

Note:
Trivia quiz and Live Trivia Challenges have their own leaderboards. These leaderboards can be shown on the big screen, but not in the player app.

These leaderboards will only show the player's scores for the individual challenge.

You should use these leaderboards to pick a winner for an individual challenge.

How Leaderboards Are Displayed to Players

Leaderboards in APG can appear in two places:

Player App

  • Players can view enabled leaderboards inside the Player App.

  • The leaderboard design inherits the theme from your Game Configuration.

Big Screen Displays

  • Leaderboards can be displayed on presentation screens during your event.

  • Big Screen leaderboard themes are configured separately in the Theme tab.

  • A sub-tab is created for each leaderboard type you activate.

How to Configure the Leaderboard Theme

Player App Leaderboards

  • Inherit the styling and theme from the main Game Configuration.

  • No separate theme setup is required.

Big Screen Leaderboards

  1. Click the Theme tab.

  2. Select the leaderboard type sub-tab (e.g., Overall, Team, Group).

  3. Customize colors, layout, and display options.

  4. Click Save.

  5. Click the Preview Leaderboard icon to see what the leaderboard will look like with your changes.

Each leaderboard type has its own theme configuration for Big Screen Displays.

Adjust your Leaderboard Parameters

  • Number of Players: Choose the number of players you want to appear on the leaderboard.

  • Will you use an image or a background color? Make a choice and pick a color adjust the graphic.

  • Display Ranking: Will you show the player ranking or will it be setup on the graphic?

  • Show Last Name: Choose to show the last name, Initial or nothing on your leaderboard.

There are three ways to show a player's name on the leaderboard:
- Steve Rogers
- Steve R

- Steve

What Happens Next

Once activated:

  • Players immediately begin earning points toward enabled leaderboards.

  • Rankings update automatically as challenges are completed.

  • Big Screen Displays reflect live scoring.

  • Daily Leaderboards track only that day’s activity.

If you enable multiple leaderboards, players may see more than one leaderboard inside the Player App (depending on what you selected in the Winning tab).

Common Issues & Troubleshooting

The leaderboard is not showing in the Player App

  • Confirm the leaderboard is enabled under the Winning tab.

  • Make sure it is selected to appear in the Player App.

  • Have the player refresh or reopen the app.

The Big Screen leaderboard is not updating

  • The leaderboard is set to auto-refresh and was designed to look good even if the internet goes out.

  • Look in the lower left hand corner to see if there is a Red internet is inactive message.

  • Confirm the correct leaderboard type is selected.

  • Verify players are actively earning points.

The Daily Leaderboard is not resetting

  • The Daily Leaderboard tracks points earned that day only.

  • It does not reset overall game scores — only daily totals.

  • It resets based on your games timezone. You can check the timezone in game settings.

Players do not see their team or group rankings

  • Confirm teams or groups are properly assigned.

  • Make sure the correct leaderboard type (Team or Group) is enabled.
