Bank feeds are a convenient way to automatically import your bank transactions from a New Zealand bank into Solo. You can connect as many banks or accounts as you need. Once your bank is connected, your transactions will be automatically imported into Solo daily.

Solo uses a data partner called Akahu to connect with New Zealand banks. Akahu is supported by a great local team and their solution has been in the market since 2017.

The difference between Akahu and other data partners is that they access your banking data via the same mechanisms / APIs as the bank's own mobile apps. So when you're adding a connection via Akahu, it's the same as if you're registering a new device for your bank's mobile app.

Data security

Connecting Solo with your bank accounts is safe. Solo uses Akahu, an external specialised service to connect with New Zealand banks. Solo is limited to read-only access to transactions and account balances and cannot effect your bank data in any way. At no point does anyone at Solo have access to your bank login details. Solo has also undergone an extensive external security review in order to integrate with the Akahu bank feed service.

Your synced transactions are not viewed by anyone at Solo unless you give us permission to check our database for troubleshooting purposes. You can permanently delete your synced transactions from Solo at any time.

Troubleshooting Akahu bank feeds

On occasion, bank feeds encounter errors that are beyond our control. Errors are not commonplace, but unfortunately, they do happen.

Thankfully, the errors are temporary in most cases and can be resolved on the next sync or resolved within 48 hours.

How to connect your bank account

  1. Click the OK, let's go button.

  2. Select your bank.

  3. Click Continue to agree to Akahu's terms of service.

  4. Enter your email address and click Continue. This is so Akahu can send you a verification code.

  5. Enter the verification code you received in your email.

  6. Enter your internet banking login details and answer any required security questions.

Note: Your login details are protected and Solo does not store or have access to your login details.

  7. Select the account/s you want to connect with Solo and click Update. You will then be redirected back to Solo.

  8. Select the account/s you want to import transactions for.

  9. Choose a date for syncing your transactions. By default Solo will either select the date of the last transaction added to Solo, or the start of the financial year – depending on if you have already added transactions to Solo or not. You can import transactions as far back as 365 days for all banks apart from ASB (who only offer 90 days in their mobile app).

  10. Click the Connect accounts button.

That's it! It can take up to a few minutes for all your transactions to appear in the Income and Expenses pages in Solo. If you are an ASB customer and all your transactions are not available you can manually upload a transaction file from your bank. After your account is connected, all your incoming transactions will automatically appear in Solo.

Note: It may take a few minutes for your transactions to begin appearing in Solo.
