How to Check the Cognitive Load of a Task

Updated this week

In Soma, task difficulty is shown using the Cognitive Load slider. It gives you a quick estimate of how demanding a task will be based on the settings you’ve selected.

A task’s Cognitive Load updates automatically based on the task type, duration, and intensity. This guideline was developed in collaboration with Birmingham University to reflect the overall load created by the task’s core parameters. For example, Inverted Stroop is generally simpler than the Colour Shape task, which involves more rules and higher decision-making demands.

💡 The Cognitive Load slider reflects the base task settings only and does not factor in the selected training mode.
