Setting up Soma Intelligence

Soma Intelligence lets you ask questions about your athletes in plain language and get answers straight from your Soma Analytics data. No exports, no filtering, no digging through sessions.

Ask how an athlete's reaction time has trended, which of your squad has gone quiet this month, or where inside a task quality falls away, and the answer comes back from your own dashboard.

It takes about two minutes to set up and you only do it once. After that it just sits in Claude, ready whenever you open a chat. You do not even need to be logged into Soma Analytics for it to work.

What it can and cannot do

Soma Intelligence is read only. It can read your data but cannot create, edit or delete anything in Soma. It only ever sees the athletes in your own account, so there is no cross-team or cross-customer data, and it will not write training prescriptions or anything medical.

Before you start

Log in to Soma Analytics and open Settings. You will find two things there: the connector name and the remote MCP server URL. Keep that tab open, as you will paste both into Claude in a moment. The MCP server URL is blacked out in the screenshot below for security reasons. Copy yours from Settings in Soma Analytics.

Step 1. Open Connectors in Claude

Open Claude's settings and click Connectors in the sidebar, under Customize. This is where all of your connectors live, and it is where Soma will appear once you are done.

Step 2. Add the Soma connector

At the top right of the Connectors page, click Add, then choose Add custom connector.

A box opens asking for the two things you copied from Soma. Paste the name into Name and the server URL into Remote MCP server URL, exactly as they appear, with nothing added or trimmed off the ends. Continue stays greyed out until both fields are filled, so it going dark tells you both went in cleanly.

Click Add. Claude will prompt you to select Connect and sign in to Soma Analytics.

Approve the connection request, and you’re all set.

Soma now appears in your connectors list, marked Custom. Open a new chat and ask your first question, something like "how has [athlete name]'s reaction time trended over the last 3 months?"

Claude never sees your Soma password, and you can revoke access from Soma Analytics whenever you want.

What comes next

Soma Intelligence returns your figures. It does not, on its own, tell you what to do about them.

Projects are the layer that changes that: a saved workspace holding instructions for how you want it to behave and knowledge documents it reads before every response. Same data, answered through the Soma method rather than general knowledge.
