Pre-saves

Learn how to leverage pre-save to drive day one streams and engage fans early in your release campaign cycle.

Updated over a week ago

A pre-save allows fans to save your upcoming release (single, EP, or album) to their streaming library before it’s available. When your music goes live, it is automatically added to their library, driving first-day streams and signaling early engagement to streaming platforms. Pre-saves are one of the most effective ways to turn attention into measurable momentum on release day.

How Pre-Saves Work

  1. A fan clicks your pre-save link or interacts with your embedded pre-save.

  2. They connect their streaming account (e.g., Spotify, Apple Music).

  3. They grant permission to save the release.

  4. On release day, Sonikit automatically adds the release to their library.

This happens instantly at the release time you set. No action required from the fan after opting in.

What You Need to Create a Pre-Save

To create a pre-save in Sonikit, you’ll need:

  • Release title

  • Artist name

  • Cover artwork

  • Release date and time

You can also include a UPC, which is used to match your release on streaming platforms.

🚨 Important: You can create a pre-save at any time without a UPC, but you must add it before release day. If no UPC is provided by release time, the pre-save cannot be completed and the release will not be added to fan libraries.

Two Ways to Create a Pre-Save

Sonikit offers two formats depending on how you want to promote your release:

1. Pre-Save Link (Landing Page)

A standalone page (e.g., yourrelease.sonikit.com) designed specifically for your pre-save campaign.

Best for:

  • Social media promotion

  • Ads and campaigns

  • Bio links

2. Embedded Pre-Save

A pre-save that can be embedded directly into your existing website.

Best for:

  • Artist websites

  • Release pages

  • Blogs or press features

Pre-Saves + NextSave

Standard pre-saves apply to a single release. For ongoing growth, Sonikit also offers NextSave which functions as a lifetime pre-save for all upcoming releases (available on Pro and Enterprise plans):

  • Fans subscribe once

  • All future releases are automatically saved to their library

This means you’re not just promoting one release, you’re building a long-term audience pipeline. Learn more about NextSave in our dedicated guide.

Do Pre-Saves Count Toward Lifetime Totals?

Yes—each successful pre-save counts as a fan action tied to a specific release.

NextSave operates differently: it’s a subscription-based action that applies to future releases, rather than a one-time pre-save.
