How Do I Upload a New Product?

Step-by-step guide outlining how to upload a new product including the required and recommended fields to complete.

Step 1

Go to ‘Catalog’ in the left-hand side menu

Step 2

Select ‘Products’ to see a complete list of the products on the website

Step 3

Press the ‘Add Product’ button in the top right-hand side corner

Note: Alternatively, you can add a new product by duplicating a similar product. See the step-by-step process here.

Step 4

Fill in the following fields:

a

Enable Product

Selecting ‘Yes’ makes the product available for any purpose within the website and backend

Attribute Set

This should always be set to ‘Default’

c

Visibility

Controls the findability of the product:

  • Catalog and Search: The product will be available on the front end and can be searched. This is generally the default setting.

  • Catalog: The product cannot be searched and can only be found via a specific link.

  • Not visible individually: The product cannot be found on the front end of the website at all.

Work in Progress

Allows you to filter products by ‘Work in Progress’ in the admin product grid

Is Product a Prescription Drug?

Identify whether the product is a prescription item or not

SKU

This should match the ‘Item Code’ field in FRED

Barcode

This should match the ‘Alias’ field in FRED

Product Name

The name of the product as seen on the website front end

Brand

Select the relevant brand from the dropdown

Price

This is the RRP price of the product

Free Shipping

Is the product eligible for free shipping or not?

Categories

Select the categories and/or subcategories related to this product. You can select multiple options. This aligns with the categories in the navigational menu of the website.

Google Product Category

Select a category from the Google Product database. Products will generally fall under the ‘Health and Beauty’ category.

Tax Class

Is the product a taxable good or not?

Select the ‘Advanced Pricing’ link to set sale prices

Special Price

Set the sale price for the product

Special Price From - To

Set when you want to sale to begin and end. You can leave one or both of these fields empty if you want to set up an open-ended sale.

Step 5

Scroll down and open the ‘Content’ tab

Step 6

Press the ‘Show/Hide Editor’ button to reveal the user-friendly editor

Step 7

Fill in the following fields:

Note: This information can typically be gathered directly from the distributor’s website

a

Short Description

Short blurb describing what the product is

b

Product Detail

Further product details e.g. what is it used for?

c

Ingredients

Ingredients list

d

Directions

Recommended usage directions

e

Unit of Measure

Size of the product e.g. 200 mL or 200 g

Step 8

Scroll down and open the ‘Images And Videos’ tab

Step 9

Upload the image(s) for the product

Step 10

Select the image you would like to set as the primary product image

Note: If you have imported more than one image, you have the option to set the tags for your primary product image

Step 11

Select the roles you would like to assign to the image and close the tab

Base

Large image on the product description page

Small

Thumbnail images e.g. in the account page

Thumbnail

Small images used in for the product tiles e.g. search results

Step 12

Scroll down and open the ‘Search Engine Optimisation’ tab

Step 13

Fill in the following fields:

a

URL Key

This will be part of the URL unique to the product. You can copy and paste the Product Name in this field. When you press ‘Save’ it will automatically make this input “URL friendly”.

Meta Title

This is displayed on search engine result pages and browser tabs to indicate the topic of a webpage. The product name is typically used.

c

Meta Keywords

Meta Keywords were used to give search engines more information about a page's content, though they are now mostly ignored.

Meta Description

This text generally describes what a particular page is about with a short, relevant summary. The snippet is often also displayed in search engine results.

Exclude Sitemap

Generally, this is set to ‘No’ unless you have set the product to not be visible individually

Step 14

Once all of the above content has been entered, scroll up and press the ‘Assign Sources’ button

Important: This step must be completed to have your new product linked to FRED and visible on the website

Step 15

Select the checkbox for the ‘Default’ source and all active sources(stores and/or stock locations).

Step 16

Press ‘Done

Step 17

Save’ the new product
