Getting Started with Revenue Signals
Revenue Signals turns the invisible visible. It provides a living feed of verified revenue disclosures from tens of thousands of private companies, helping you track real-time traction often before it hits the mainstream press.
π‘ Revenue Signals is in an early alpha state. Core functions are in place and we'll continue to introduce new ways to interact with the feature overtime. |
What are Revenue Signals?
While traditional databases rely on static, yearly updates, Revenue Signals are dynamic data points captured the moment a company discloses financial progress. Each signal is categorised, timestamped, and normalized into USD for easy benchmarking.
Signal Types
ARR Milestones: Specific updates on Annual Recurring Revenue (e.g., "Crossing $50M ARR").
Operating Revenue: Disclosures regarding total revenue generated within a specific timeframe.
Profitability Shifts: Indicators of a company reaching EBITDA positivity, break-even status, or significant margin improvements.
Growth Rates: Verified year-over-year (YoY) or quarter-over-quarter (QoQ) performance updates.
Where does the data come from?
We prioritse structured intelligence over "scraped noise." Every signal in Specter is tied to a verifiable source.
Our Primary Sources
To ensure the highest accuracy, we aggregate data from four main pillars:
Regulatory Filings: Official data from international business registries (e.g., Companies House, SEC filings, and local government equivalents).
Corporate Disclosures: Direct updates from company leadership, including shareholder letters, quarterly reports, and official company blogs.
Verified Media: Reports from trusted financial and tech news outlets (e.g., Bloomberg, Reuters, Financial Times, TechCrunch).
Investor Updates: Publicly shared performance data from venture capital and private equity firms regarding their portfolio companies.
π€ Transparency First: Every signal in your feed includes a "Context" link. Clicking this will take you to the original source, filing, or report from which the data was extracted. |
π§° How to Use Revenue Signals
You can access Revenue Signals via the Signals Feed or directly on a Company Profile, within the Funding Tab.
1. Filtering your Feed
Use the filters at the top of the Company DB to narrow down signals by:
Annualized Revenue (USD): Set a floor or ceiling for revenue to target companies within a specific scale (e.g., target startups that just crossed the $5M ARR threshold)
Revenue Source Type: Filter signals based on where they originated (e.g., prioritize Official Filings over Media Reports if you require higher data certainty).
Revenue Growth (%): Look for momentum by filtering for companies with specific growth rates over a 6-month, 1-year, or 2-year period.
2. The "Signal View"
Clicking into a specific company gives you more than just a number, it provides the Trajectory.
You can see:
Historical context: How the latest signal compares to revenue data from 12β24 months ago.
Operational Velocity: Side-by-side comparisons with headcount growth and funding history to see if the company is growing efficiently.
