This guide explains who should use stable, testing, and experimental features, and how to switch between them.

Stable: For Daily Use

Who should use stable?
The stable version should be used by everyone for everyday tasks. It is reliable, well-tested, and should work without issues. By default, the app uses the stable server, and testing features are turned off.

Testing: For New Feature Enthusiasts

Who should enable testing?
Testers and users interested in trying out new features should enable testing. This mode is for those who want to explore features that are nearly ready for general use.

How to enable testing?
Go to the menu on the web interface of your display device. Here, you can enable or disable "testing" mode. This mode activates features that are generally stable and ready for broader testing.

Latest/Experimental: For Early Feedback Providers

Who should use experimental?
A smaller group of testers and users who need access to specific experimental features should use this mode. It’s for those providing feedback during the early stages of development.

How to enable experimental?
In the measurement app settings, choose between "stable" and "latest"/"experimental". The setting "latest" uses the experimental server. The experimental server activates features that are still in development. Note that some experimental features might not work perfectly, and the server may sometimes be unavailable. Because the experimental server uses a different database, data might occasionally be deleted.

Important Notes on Switching Servers

Reconnecting display devices:
When switching between stable and experimental servers, you will need to reconnect your display device (e.g., tablet). This is necessary because different servers use different connections.

Checking your server mode:
You can tell which server you are using by looking at the device ID:

  • Device IDs starting with "S" are connected to the stable server.

  • Device IDs starting with "X" are connected to the experimental server.

You can find this information on the measurement screen and in the menu of your display device.

Returning to Default Settings

How to get back to default?
To switch back to the stable server:

  1. Open the settings in the measurement app and select "stable".

  2. Reconnect your display device using the QR code in the measurement setup.

  3. Make sure the "testing" switch in the display menu (accessible via the 3 bars in the top right corner) is turned off.

Troubleshooting Common Issues

App not connected:
If your display device shows that the app is not connected, it might be due to server switching. This issue can be common when using multiple devices like a tablet for the main player and a smartphone for the second player. Here’s what to do:

  1. Check if the measurement app is still running.

  2. Try reconnecting the display device using a QR code in the measurement setup.

  3. Ensure the device ID on the measurement screen matches the one in the display device menu.

Suddenly nothing is working:
Frequent updates to the experimental server may cause temporary issues. If the app stops working:

  1. Close and restart the measurement app.

  2. Switch to the stable mode.

  3. Set up the measurement again.

  4. Reconnect the display device using a QR code.

  5. Check the playground to see if it shows measurement results again.
