How to Create Your Real-Money Survivor Contest

This guide walks through how to create a Splash-managed NCAAB Survivor (Pick By Day) contest. In this format, Splash collects entry fees and automatically handles payouts, while entrants attempt to survive by correctly picking winners each tournament day.

Step 1: Select Contest Type

When choosing your contest:

  • Select NCAAB

  • Choose NCAAB Survivor

  • Select the Pick By Day format

This ensures you are creating a Splash-managed real-money Survivor contest.

Contest Setup

Contest Information

Contest Title (Required)

Enter the official name of your contest.
Example: 2026 March Madness Survivor – Pick By Day

This is what entrants will see when joining.

Contest Description

Use this section to explain:

  • Custom rules or clarifications

  • Buyback structure

  • Tiebreaker rules

  • Prize pool details

Providing a clear description helps avoid confusion during the tournament.

Contest Banner

Upload a custom banner to personalize your contest.

Requirements:

  • Maximum file size: 4 MB

  • Recommended dimensions: 2880 x 170 pixels

  • Accepted formats: PNG, JPG, JPEG

A banner is optional but recommended for a professional look.

Gameplay Settings

Sport & Game Style

  • Sport: NCAAB

  • Game Style: NCAAB Survivor

This confirms you are running a Survivor format contest.

Schedule

Select Contest Days

You may:

  • Select All Days, or

  • Manually choose specific tournament days

Use “Show Less/Show All” to adjust visibility.

This allows flexibility if you want:

  • Full tournament Survivor

  • Early-round-only Survivor

  • Custom start/end days

Combine Days 7 and 8 (Optional Setting)

When enabled:

  • The games played on Days 7 and 8 (4 total games) will appear on the same pick sheet.

  • To advance to Day 9, entrants must correctly pick across both days.

This setting is commonly used to streamline late-round gameplay.

Entry Settings

Entry Fee

Select the fee each entrant must pay.

With Splash-managed contests:

  • Splash collects all entry fees

  • Payments are securely processed

  • Winnings are automatically distributed

Participants review the entry fee before entering.

Commissioner Rewards (Optional)

If you opt in:

  • Splash deducts 7.5% for payment processing and administrative fees

  • An additional 5% is paid directly to you

This allows commissioners to earn compensation for running the contest.

Self-Managed Option

If selected:

  • You collect entry fees manually outside Splash

  • You distribute winnings manually

  • A one-time service fee applies

  • Please review our pricing page

If you want Splash to manage payments and payouts, do not select this option.

Contest Size

Estimate how many entries you expect.

If the contest does not reach the projected size:

  • It will automatically size down

  • Prize structure adjusts accordingly

Contest Details

General Settings

Invite Only

Only users with your direct invite link can join.

Chat

On

Allows participants to communicate inside the contest.

Entry Deadline

Example: Thursday, Mar 19 @ 12:15 PM ET

This is the deadline for entrants to join the contest.

Pick Deadline

Each Game Start

Picks lock individually at each game’s scheduled start time.

First Game of the Day

Picks lock when the first game of each day starts

Pick Objective

Pick Winners

Entrants select the team they believe will win.

Pick Losers

Entrants select the team they believe will lose.

Picks Per Day

1 Pick Per Day

Each entrant selects one team per tournament day to survive.

Pick Scoring

Straight Up

Survival is based solely on correctly picking the game winner (no point spreads).

Against the Spread

Survival is based solely on covering the spread in order to win (all spreads are rounded to the closest half point).

Advanced Settings

Team Use Limit

Choose how often an entrant can select the same team:

  • 1 time (traditional Survivor style)

  • 2 times

  • Unlimited

Limiting team usage increases strategy and difficulty.

Double Picks (Optional)

Currently disabled by default.

If enabled:

  • You may require double picks on specific days (Days 1 through Days 7 & 8)

  • Entrants must win both picks on those days to survive

This adds strategic complexity during high-volume game days.

Automatic Picks

Choose how many automatic picks are allowed if a participant forgets to submit:

  • Unlimited

  • 1 auto-pick

  • 2 auto-picks

  • 3 auto-picks

Auto-picks are typically assigned based on highest-seeded available team.

Contest Revivals

Disabled by default

If enabled:

If all remaining entrants are eliminated on the same day:

  • Instead of ending with no winner

  • The most recently eliminated group advances

  • The contest continues

This prevents the contest from ending prematurely without a winner.

Tiebreakers

If enabled:

  • Tiebreakers apply at the end of the contest

  • Based on total seed points

  • Riskier picks (higher total seed numbers) win

Example:
Picking lower-seeded underdogs increases seed points and improves tiebreak position.

Entry Lives

Choose how many lives each entry receives:

  • 1 total life (standard Survivor)

  • 2 total lives

  • 3 total lives

If an entrant loses a pick:

  • They lose a life

  • They are eliminated once all lives are used

Buyback Settings (Optional)

Buybacks allow eliminated entrants to re-enter the contest.

Entry Revival Deadline

Choose the final day entrants can buy back in:

  • Day 2

  • Day 3

  • Day 4

  • Day 5

Revival Fee

Set the buyback cost:

  • Same as entry fee

  • Double the entry fee

  • Triple the entry fee

Revivals Per Entry

Currently limited to:

  • One revival per entry

Prize Pool Splitting

Make Prize Pool Eligible for Splitting

If enabled:

  • Remaining entrants can unanimously agree to split the prize pool

If disabled:

  • Standard payout structure applies

  • No voluntary splits allowed

Turn this setting on to make your contest eligible for unanimous agreements among the remaining entrants to split the prize pool. Learn more

After Setup

Once complete:

  1. Review all settings carefully

  2. Publish your contest

  3. Share your invite link

  4. Participants enter and submit picks

  5. Splash manages all payment processing and payouts
