How to add a parent or guardian to an existing player

How a new parent, stepparent, or guardian adds themselves to a player who's already in SportsGravy.

Written by Niko Polydorou

If a new parent, stepparent, or guardian needs access to a player already in SportsGravy, the new parent adds themselves — the existing parent approves.

Add yourself as a parent/guardian

From your own SportsGravy account (create one first if you don't have one):

  1. Go to the Family section and tap Add.

  2. Search for the athlete by name.

  3. Request to be added as parent/guardian.

  4. The existing legal parent/guardian approves the request.

Once approved, you're connected to the player as a legal parent/guardian and auto-enrolled in any teams they're on.

Optional: connect to the other parent as a partner

If you also want to be linked to the other parent (spouse, partner, etc.):

  1. In the Family section, search for them by name.

  2. Request to connect with the correct relationship.

  3. They approve the request.

This is a separate connection from the one to the player.

Common questions

  • Does the organization do this? No. Family and guardianship connections are managed by families, not orgs.

  • What if the existing parent doesn't approve? The request stays pending until they do. Reach out to them directly to let them know.

  • What if the player isn't in the system yet? The existing parent needs to add the player first. This flow is only for players already in SportsGravy.
