You can upload any size image into your Sprout Studio galleries. However, the larger the file, the longer it takes to upload and the more space it takes up in your account.

When you upload smaller, optimized images, you'll see three benefits:

  1. You get quicker uploads.

  2. You use less bandwidth (from your internet service provider).

  3. You take up less storage in your Sprout Studio account.

The best size of images to upload into your Sprout Studio galleries depends on two questions:

  1. Do you plan on offering digital downloads for the gallery?

  2. If you do plan on offering digital downloads, do you want your client to download the original resolution images? Or, are you ok with the digital files that your client downloads being 5000px wide (high-resolution) or smaller?

If you plan on offering digital downloads from your gallery and want to deliver the original resolution files, then you'll want to upload whatever size files you want to deliver to your clients. The images that you upload will be the images your client downloads. We still recommend using JPEGMini to optimize your files first.

If you plan on offering digital downloads from your gallery and want to deliver high-resolution images (5000px wide) or smaller, then you can resize your files to 5000px wide before uploading. We recommend using JPEGMini to resize and optimize your files first.

If you do not plan on offering digital downloads, then we recommend uploading images at 2400px wide, optimized through a tool such as JPEGMini. This will give you the fastest upload speed, take up the smallest amount of storage in your Sprout Studio account and maintains the highest quality possible.
