We talk with a lot of photographers who are hesitant to switch to Sprout Studio. When they do, they're always happy they did. They usually wish they switched sooner!

When a photographer feels hesitant to switch, it may be because they think it will be:

  1. Too expensive

  2. Too much work

  3. Too confusing

If you're holding back from switching for any of those reasons, we don't want you to miss out. We're here to guide you and make the transition smooth.

Sprout Studio is too expensive

Expensive is a relative term.

It means "too much money in exchange for the value received." This is something I coach photographers through with their pricing, too. You need to evaluate what you're giving and what you're getting.

Consider what your time is worth. When you photograph a wedding or a portrait session, your time is worth several hundreds of dollars per hour. Of course, with that, you have overhead, product costs and other expenses. Let's keep it simple. Let's say you wanted to make a modest $60,000 salary as a photographer.

That means every hour you work, assuming you work a 40-hour work week, is worth $29/hour.

Well - the Sprout Studio Lite plan is only $17/month.

That's equal to 35 minutes of your time. Do you think Sprout Studio will save you 35 minutes per month? If so, then using Sprout Studio is an investment worth making!

Many photographers tell us that using Sprout Studio saves them dozens of hours per month. That could mean that it's saving you hundreds of dollars per month. Even at a price tag of $49 (our Pro plan), that is an excellent return on investment!

Timothy, a wedding photographer who uses Sprout Studio said:

“For $49/month, you are getting at least four different programs that most photographers are currently paying around $150 – $200/month for.”

Sprout Studio is an all-in-one system and allows you to bring all the tools you need in one place. That means a considerable saving of time and money!

Think of what you can do with all the time you save! If you save 10 hours per month (and most users say they save many multiples of that), you could photograph three portrait sessions or 1 extra wedding. What kind of money could you make if you had those extra three portrait sessions per month or 1 extra wedding per month?

That is worth the $49, wouldn't you say?

You might say "But ... I don't have enough business! I'm too early in my career as a photographer."

Think about this - when you are getting started, you must be critical of how you spend your time. You need to be focusing on your portfolio, networking, marketing, and building relationships. You shouldn't be stuck behind a computer doing administrative tasks or sending repetitive emails. Now is the best time to use Sprout Studio to get organized and streamline those communications so that you can spend your time more wisely!

Switching to Sprout Studio will be too much work

It may feel overwhelming when you're standing at the base of the mountain looking up. The idea of starting the climb is daunting.

Maybe that's you, looking at switching to Sprout Studio. It feels overwhelming. Like there's too much work. You don't know where to begin.

But take it one step at a time. It isn't as scary as you may think.

First, decide what is worth transitioning over to Sprout. Many photographers get overwhelmed by the idea of moving years of data over. But consider this - do you need to move years and years of data over? Maybe it's a better idea to start from scratch and only move over your active right now. Or perhaps you should transition the weddings you have for the upcoming season.

That would be much less daunting than moving dozens of clients over!

Once you decide what you're moving over and learn how to, you'll realize it's not as complicated as you may think. Here's an article all about how to move your clients over. Each will only take a few minutes, so it's not that big of an investment of your time.

Even still, maybe you feel like it'll be too much work to get all setup.

But think about the time you'll be saving in the long run with Sprout Studio. There’s a rule called the 30x rule, pioneered by the productivity expert Rory Vaden. The 30x rule says:

You should spend 30x the amount of time training someone to do a task, as it would take you to do the task yourself one time.

In essence, it means that it’s worth investing the time up front if it means saving time in the long run.

You may know Becker, a professional wedding photographer, and educator in our industry. He says:

"Sprout Studio saves me tons of time, allows me to make more money, and my brides love the client portal."

If you invest the time now to set up Sprout, it’ll pay dividends a hundred times over! And again, it won't take as much time as you may think!

Remember - that's what we're here for, too! We want to help you get set up quickly, so if you're having any issues or need some advice, get in touch!

Sprout Studio is too confusing

Think about the first time you opened up Adobe Photoshop.

Were you a whiz? Probably not. It was likely pretty darn confusing, right?

The first time you try anything new, it can feel overwhelming. It can feel foreign and confusing.

That's why it's important to take it bit by bit. After you opened Photoshop, you probably realized that you don't need all the tools available. I bet you only need 10% of the functionality of Photoshop.

So you learned where the "clone" stamp was. You learned how layers worked. You figured out how to use the sharpening tool.

And you worked with that for a while.

Then you slowly discovered the other tools as the need came up. You didn't try to become a master of Photoshop the first time you opened the program, right?

The same is true with Sprout.

Learn it bit-by-bit.

Understand the basics. Use only the functionality that you immediately need. Then, slowly ease into the rest of the software as you become more comfortable.

Commit to learning one new thing every couple of days. Then master it. After a month, you'll be a whiz at Sprout - much less time than it took to master Photoshop, I'm sure!

And again, that's what we're here for - to help you. If you have questions, need something explained or aren't sure of how something should be used, let us know, and we're happy to help!
