Written by Tyler Hancock

Markup is a premium that a player may charge when selling a percentage of their action.

Markup is typically expressed as a multiplier.

  • 1.00 markup: No premium.

  • 1.10 markup: 10% premium.

  • 1.25 markup: 25% premium.

  • 1.50 markup: 50% premium.

Example

A player enters a $1,000 tournament and offers action at 1.20 markup.

At no markup, 10% of the tournament costs $100.

At 1.20 markup, that same 10% costs $120.

The backer still owns 10% of the applicable tournament returns, but pays a $20 premium.

Why Do Players Charge Markup?

Players may charge markup based on their experience, perceived skill advantage, tournament conditions, and demand for their action.

Does Higher Markup Mean Better Returns?

No. Higher markup increases the purchase price and does not guarantee better performance.

Always review the complete package terms and any applicable fees before purchasing.
