Using AI Chat on Standard Metrics

AI Chat is an intelligent assistant built directly into Standard Metrics, designed to help you quickly understand and analyze your portfolio companies. Whether you’re preparing for a partner meeting or need a fast refresh on company performance, AI Chat delivers insights instantly, based on the data already in your workspace.

What Can AI Chat Do?

AI Chat leverages both qualitative and quantitative data stored on Standard Metrics. That includes:

  • Qualitative: notes, tear sheets, and custom column data

  • Quantitative: revenue, EBITDA, runway, and other metrics (both Standard and Custom)

Currently, AI Chat uses the last 8 quarters of data to generate insights. It doesn’t yet support annual data or internet-based queries.

Key Features

Instant, Context-Rich Answers

Ask questions like:

  • “Can you summarize this company in 3 bullet points?”

  • “What is the current cash burn?”

  • “Do you think we should participate in their next round?”

  • “How does this company compare to its competitors?”

AI Chat responds with concise, data-driven answers based on the most recent company information.

Conversation History

  • Navigate past chats using the top scrollbar

  • Click New Chat to begin a fresh session (helpful if you’ve just added new data)

Privacy and Access

  • AI Chat only accesses companies you already have permission to view

  • All chats are user-specific: your teammates won’t see your chat history

  • Data used in chats is not shared with OpenAI for training purposes

  • Conversations are used internally by our product team to improve the feature

Updating Data

New notes, tear sheets, or metric updates won’t appear in an existing chat. To incorporate updated data:

Create a new chat to refresh the AI’s context.

Who Can Use AI Chat?

All user roles, including Admins, Editors, Viewers, and Custom Roles, can use AI Chat.

Under the Hood

AI Chat is powered by the latest GPT model, tailored with a system prompt focused on analytical accuracy and brevity. It reflects the tone and rigor of a sharp venture associate—confident, concise, and data-first.

Behind each chat, the AI processes:

  • Company name

  • Investor commentary

  • Notes

  • CSV-formatted financial data for the last 8 quarters (standardized by fiscal year and currency)

Known Limitations

• Data is not real-time updated within a chat

• No benchmarking or web search capabilities—yet

• Occasional inaccuracies can occur; we’re continuously refining the model
