Automatically generates alt text for all product images using AI

AltKing uses advanced AI models — including GPT and Nano — to automatically generate descriptive, high-quality alt text for every product image in your store. Each alt text is generated based on the actual image content along with the product and variant properties, making it highly relevant and specific to each image rather than generic.

Runs on a 24-hour schedule

The app runs a scheduled job every 24 hours to check your store for any new images that have been added or any images that still need alt text generated. This means your store stays up to date automatically without any manual intervention — new products and images are picked up and processed in the next scheduled run.

Analyzes your store before making any changes

When you first set up the app, it analyzes your store by fetching all your products and images. Before anything is published, you can preview the AI-generated alt text for your top 5 products so you can see exactly what the output looks like before committing to it. No changes are made to your store during this preview stage.

Manages exceptions with custom patterns

If there are specific product images you do not want the app to overwrite with AI-generated alt text — for example, images that already have carefully written alt text — you can exclude them by adding a pattern. The app will skip any images that match the pattern and leave their existing alt text untouched. A set of default exclusion patterns is already added based on our research, so common exceptions are handled out of the box.

Significantly enhances SEO

Because every product image gets a descriptive, variant-aware alt text generated from actual image and product data, your store's SEO improves meaningfully. Search engines use alt text to understand and index images — having accurate, detailed alt text across all your product images makes them more likely to appear in image search results and improves your overall store discoverability.

It does not generate alt text for non-product images

AltKing only processes images in the media section of your Shopify products. It does not generate or update alt text for other images on your store — such as images in your theme, blog posts, pages, or any other sections outside of the product media library.

It does not support custom metafields or text in alt text

Currently, the app generates alt text purely using AI based on the image and product properties. It does not support adding custom metafields, static variables, or manually defined text patterns into the alt text template. This is something that may be considered for a future release — reach out to our support team if this is something you need.

It does not rename or change image file names

AltKing only updates the alt text attribute of your product images. It does not rename, modify, or change the file names of your images in any way. Your media file names remain exactly as they are in Shopify.
