[Variant Title King] Getting Started

Learn how to set up Variant Title King in three simple steps — create a title template, configure your variant options, and activate the app on your theme to start displaying variant-specific information in your product titles.

Welcome to Variant Title King! This app helps you display variant-specific information directly in the product title on your storefront. When a customer selects a variant, the product title updates automatically to reflect the details of that specific variant — such as the SKU, color, size, or model — giving customers complete clarity about what they are buying and reducing the chances of wrong orders.

Why this matters

Think of a TV that comes in two models — 2025 and 2026 — each with a different SKU. By default, the product title stays the same regardless of which model the customer selects. With Variant Title King, the title updates dynamically when a customer makes a selection, showing the relevant SKU or model information right there in the title. This removes any guesswork, builds confidence in the purchase, and significantly reduces wrong orders.

Other benefits include:

  • Customers immediately know which variant they have selected without having to cross-check the variant selector

  • Particularly useful for products with technical variants such as SKUs, model numbers, storage capacities, or sizes where the variant name alone may not be descriptive enough. But it is good to use accorss all types of products.

  • The app works purely on the storefront, product page and does not make any changes to your product titles in the Shopify backend

  • It can also work on collection page if you are displaying variants from Swatch King app.

Setup guide

Getting the app live takes just three steps.

Step 1 — Set product title template

Set up a title template using dynamic variables. The template defines how the product title appears on the storefront when a variant is selected.

For example, a template like {product_title} - {SKU} would display as "Samsung TV - TV2025SKU" when the 2025 model is selected, and "Samsung TV - TV2026SKU" when the 2026 model is selected.

Click Set template to configure your template in the App settings page. You can use any combination of the available variables to build a title that works best for your products.

Step 2 — Configure variant options

Select which product options should be included in the title template. For example, if your products have both Color and Size options but you only want to show Color in the title, you can disable Size here to keep the title concise and relevant.

Only the options you enable here will be used when the title updates on the storefront.

Step 3 — Activate the app

Add the app embed to your Shopify theme to enable the app on your storefront. Click Select theme to open the Manage app on themes page, where you will see all the themes installed on your store divided into two sections:

  • Published theme — your currently live theme. A green tick next to the theme name means the app embed is already active on this theme.

  • Unpublished themes — all other themes installed on your store that are not currently live. This is useful if you want to test the app on a new theme before publishing it.

Click Manage app embed next to the theme you want to activate the app on. This will open the Shopify theme editor where you can toggle the app embed on.

You can activate the app on your published theme to go live immediately, or enable it on an unpublished theme first to verify everything looks correct before going live.

Note: The app embed must be active on your published theme for the variant title to update on your live storefront. Always check the embed status after switching or updating your theme, as it may need to be re-enabled on a newly activated theme.

At a glance

Once you are set up, the home page also gives you a quick overview of:

  • Products — the total number of products in your store

  • App active on — how many of your installed themes currently have the app embed active
